Windows 7 is faster than Vista - tests prove it
PC Labs have found that Windows 7 performs faster than Vista in a variety of functions, from booting to general operation. They found a substantial 13.7% savings in boot times for instance.

Its an interesting article and worth a look over here

Well a savings in boot time is a decrease because saving time booting is essentially the same thing as it taking less time. But whatever.

In any case, I have definitely noticed that 7 is a bit more snappy overall in booting and hitting the desktop. My motherboard is the slowest booting thing in the world thanks to ASUS's Express Gate BS (even if you disable it it is still freakishly slow as it looks for the software.) but other than that when it gets to the stage that vista takes forever on the loading screen I barely see it before its on the desktop. I have also noticed that the Aeroesque designs don't use near the memory as my Vista Ultimate rigs do.

The speed improvements are fairly negligible in real world terms - I would say it's a notch quicker!
