Intel may face antitrust in US in a matter of weeks

We reported last week that Intel may be facing an antritrust trial in the US after being forced to deal with a $1.45 billion fine via the European Union for anticompetitive practices.

Reuters have stated that a vote in the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) could be only 'a matter of weeks or a matter of months away'. From what we have heard via Reuters three out of four commissioners on the FTC are swinging in favour of filing a complaint against Intel.

Earlier the EU found Intel guilty of "wholly or partially hidden rebates to computer manufacturers on condition that they bought all, or almost all, their x86 CPUs from Intel," and made "direct payments to a major retailer on condition it stock only computers with Intel x86 CPUs," saying that these moves "effectively prevented customers - and ultimately consumers - from choosing alternative products."
