Intel Core i7 930 to make an appearance Q1 2010

Intel may very well have plans to axe the Core i7 920 processor in the next couple of months and they just informed DriverHeaven that the replacement with arrive in Q1 2010. It is going to be called (unsurprisingly the Core i7 930).

The clock speeds are set to be 2.88ghz and it will be a quad core, eight thread chip to slot into current LGA 1366 motherboards - details are limited on whether it will be 45nm or 32nm.

Prices should be much in line with the current 920 - which will make it very competitive indeed.

I did hear a rumour a few months back saying that Intel were phasing out the i7-920 and that LGA1366 would be exclusive to the high-end/enthusiasts hinting that only Extreme Edition cpus would exist.

So it's good to hear that the i7-930 will be introduced and if it is priced the same as the i7-920 then even better. Like "DJ BIG T" mentioned above, a move to 32nm would be great, hopefully it make it run cooler.
