12 inches is just too big. I guess they can't go for more width so they have to go for more length. Perhaps they could go for more height.

They could but then where would they go height wise? I mean most cases only have maybe what 1/2 to 1 inch above the cards? so thats another issue . Though, I suppose they COULD go for width if they wanted to but then cooling two separate pieces would be hard and it would take up as much space as a Crossfire setup which, I suppose quite defeats the purpose.

Re: HD 5970 dual RV870 due for release - very soon

Well I sent an email to Sapphires support asking and I guess he assumed I was planning to replace my Sapphire 4870x2 with their 5970 so he based the info on that & according to the tech that responded

"This card is 12.2" in length, so its about an inch longer then the hD4870X2 card"

So it sounds like the powercolor one should be an inch or less bigger so gonna hope for the best.

<gets out the K-Y just in case hehe>

Re: HD 5970 dual RV870 due for release - very soon

congrats on the purchase, i doubt you will be disappointed.

I am working on a Crossfire X article right now, its just very time consuming. I have four 5970s in front of me right now and while they are massive, I really like the aesthetics.

As for the size I am pretty sure it will fit in your case - the only issue you would have would be if your hard drive bays were overhanging nearer the motherboard, but a lot of cases let you remove the bays and move them into a lower slot.

Let me know how you get on ...

You need to log on to ncixus.com for USD prices which I think was 629, the same price Newegg was listing cards for but their already out of stock too. I got my order in with them while they still showed some in stock, they don't show any instock now, and have gotten confirmation up to the "shipping" point. Wish they had had the HIS version in but from what I've read Powercolor is an okay maker so will see how it performs. Won't know till probably tomorrow AM if my order actually made it out the door. Crossing my fingers tho.

Well we reviewed it today - its just like all the other ones I have here, they are basically all reference ATI design boards with different boxes and stickers, you will be fine.

One quick question, my monitor will accept either HDMI or DVI. As the powercolor offers HDMI by using a DVI to HDMI adapter which connection would be best to use?
