Nvidia to release GT240 November 17th - DX 10.1 only

Our sources told us this morning that Nvidia are planning to release the GT240 on November 17th. Unfortunately our sources also tell us the card is just DX 10.1 capable and is set to replace the 9600GSO/GT.

A rather unexciting release to be honest with 96 cores and it will obviously support PhysX. Clock speeds are meant to work at around the 900mhz mark with overclocked versions with GDDR5 support also being offered.

Expect prices in the same region as the 9600 GT/GSO.

Re: Nvidia to release GT240 November 17th - DX 10.1 only

What ??, nVidia has finally moved to DX10.1 "not even DX11" , it is a shame , I know there in no huge differences between 10.0 and 10.1 but it is considered more of technology achievements , also I think this is the first GDDR5 nvidia GPU.

They should however let these mainstream for a while and make DX11 high-end cards ASAP to compete with ATi.

Re: Nvidia to release GT240 November 17th - DX 10.1 only

Well you need to do something in desperate situations. 96 Shaders still are some (9600GT has 64) and those clocked high can make a difference in framerates. If the bit-bus remains 256-bit, add GDDR5 and you have a hell of a bandwith.

Waiting for a review :d

Edit
btw, this card will also be produced on a 40nm process, like the GT220 and the G210. However, TSMC is having problems with the yields

Re: Nvidia to release GT240 November 17th - DX 10.1 only

I think Nvidia's move is not that bad. Not bad at all.

People who will buy 240 ie 9600 ie 8600, are not exactly going after the top performance card to begin with. Any game that will require DX11 is not going to be light on any card and I doubt it will play fine on such a card.
Anyone that is a gamer that wants DX11 games and performance to go with it, will not go for the GT240.

Re: Nvidia to release GT240 November 17th - DX 10.1 only

That's not really true. DX11 does provide performance improvements in some cases, and would be good for that. This card will compete with ATI cards at the same price range that do have DX11.

On the other hand, it's good that NVIDIA is finally moving to DX 10.1. They needed Microsoft's gentle push to get there, but at least they got there.

So you are telling me gamers that know what DX11 is, looking forwards to play the DX11 games that will be released in the future, would rush to buy the 9600? I mean the GT240, if it supported DX11? For what? To play games at 1024x768 most details on low? It's pointless.

DX11 has some features "beside PS 5.0 and the Graphics options" that takes all the juice of the card "Direct compute" , if you've seen Battle Forge benchmark at one of DH reviews , you will notice the game gains more FPS .

The GT240 looks set to be comparable to the 9600GT. That's not 1024x768 on low by a long way.

While these cards fulfilled a similar space in the market place, they are not just renamed versions of the same card, if that's what you're suggesting. The 9600 doubles most of the 8600's key specifications.
