New AMD based mobile phone to use Windows XP

In Technology Group Limited have just released information on their new xpphone interface. This new phone is being promoted as the first phone to use a 'real' version of Windows XP for its base OS. This is due to the fact that the xpphone is actually the first device to use a real X86 processor. In Technology Group are calling it the AMD SUPER MOBILE CPU and it is capable of dealing with 1GB of ram, as well as a 64GB SSD or 120GB mechanical drive.

They are keen to promote this phone has having all the functionality of a laptop, GPS and fully featured mobile phone and they want to build in VOIP functions as well.

We think it looks rather nifty and hopefully we will have more information shortly.

I'm sure the price will change my mind quickly though.

Definately interesting, but why XP? With those specs, Win 7 would run on it and be a heck of a lot better than XP.

I'm guessing that the CPU will have sub-Atom performance so to speak, so XP could be a better choice because of slightly less overhead. Also, they are probably getting those XP licenses dirt-cheap, while they would have probably been unable to get a similar deal for 7. It looks promising and it will be interesting to see an x86 compatible in such a small device.

The world is progressing this is the new future of laptops, i wonder what games you would be able to play on it ?? (DooM 1 or the likes )

not to mention that they absolutely will be over-egging the performance of it at this point, and when it does make an appearance and doesn't perform as well as expected that will reflect poorly on whatever OS is on it. and XP is dead and burried, so that doesn't matter

does look interesting though, doesn't it

It's an interesting concept, to say the least, but running even XP is a lot of overhead. Even with an SSD, it's going to take a while to boot up and will be far slower than most phones in this respect.

From the technology point of view, very interesting. But I wouldn't use it as my mobile phone. Already think smartphones are too much for that.

Well, my Asus eee900 is "sub-atom" (Celeron 900), and it runs 7 just fine. Better than it did XP as a matter of fact.

However, that "AMD Super Mobile CPU" in their specs doesn't tell you much, and it could well be MUCH slower that even my eee900, so CPU speed/capability could be the reason.
