Windows 7 & Intel P55 Chipset causing iphone issues

If you are fortunate enough to own an iPhone you may already be experiencing issues getting it to sync with your Intel P55 chipset while running Windows 7.

For just under 2 months we have been watching the Apple forums and there are a growing number of users running into these issues. The people are reporting that Itunes 9 with Windows is causing a sync error entitled "error 0xE8000065" - which is a failure notification to connect.

The only thing that appears to be in the mix in all the complaints is the new Intel P55 Express chipset and although the majority of problems seem to be occuring with Windows 7 X64 there are even some reports of the same errors happening on both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Vista.

The issue appears to be some incompatibility with the motherboards USB ports although some clever end users are getting around the problems by using a PCI based USB card which is obviously bypassing the chipset USB controller. Unfortunately even this isn't a miracle fix as others have has the dreaded BSOD when using one !

During our reading we noticed a few end user fixes such as deleting the iPodDevies.xml file from C:\Users username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes and even some people playing with Bios settings to turn on the C-state capability.

So far most boards appear to be from Gigabyte, Asus and MSI - and our contacts in a few of these companies have stated that this is a serious enough issue to warrant an internal investigation.

With Apple due to release the new 27 inch iMacs with Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors during November we will be interested to see if they are using the same chipsets and if any issues occur - although Apple do perform stringent in house testing with all their peripherals before going to market.

No it's INTEL and you are seeing a mass of errors.

Pretty much the same as nVidia caused mass errors with Vista when it came out.

Both of them seem to have the impression that they don't need to work WITH MS when a new OS and or DX is in the making, decide to go with their own 'solutions', and consumers end up with problems.
