Nokia's new high end smartphone finally ships

Nokia have been struggling lately in the smartphone sector with competitors such as Samsung and Acer beating it to release with key products.

The new N900 however is Nokia's jewel in the crown as they are aiming to promote this smartphone as a powerful mini PC.

The phone uses a Texas Instruments OMAP 3430 SoC, which uses ARM's Cortex A8 processor core (600mhz in this phone) and Imagination Technologies PowerVR SGX 530 graphics core. This combination of hardware should mean that the phone is really responsive and capable particularly on the 3.5 inch resistive touchscreen.

Also worthy of note is the operating system - it is called Maemo and is Nokia's Linux based operating system to compete against Google's Android. Nokia are keen to promote this OS as the future for this sector, even though Symbian (which they also own) is the world's most widely used smartphone OS.

Nokia Conversations, their in house blog stated that the N900 was shipping this morning and the price looks to be around the 500 euros price point.

500 Euros for a phone that's just crazy but some people can afford it.. O.o

most high end handsets retail for around 5/600 quid here. its a lot, but its not unusual.

500 euros , I am never gonna see it before 5 years

seriously though , even if I have much money I wouldn't spend too much in the handheld stuff .
