RADEON driver with the new ATI mobility FireGL 5200?
Hi there,
I want to buy a Thinkpad T60P and it is very interesting to me if there will be a possibility to install the radeon driver on this card to be able to play games with it? Another question: How bad are the FireGL drivers for games? Greets Pouni |

Hi!
Yeah thats really an interesting Question! I want to buy a Notebook with this card too (perhaps). In the "Mobility Mod Tool" Readme is only the FireGL V5100 but not the V5200. Does it support the v5200 even though? And on the Omega Drivers Page is written that it support EVERY Ati Card so the V5200 should be supported too.. And yes, does anybody know how bad the FireGL Cards Drivers are, if you want to play Games with them? Cheers, Schwarzer Riese |

I too am curious if/when compatibility with the V5200 will be added. The tool worked like a charm with our IBM T42P laptops, with the FireGL T2, in fixing a problem with SketchUp. Now we're running in to the same problem with the T60P laptops

I just purchased a T60p with the v5200 and I would also like to know if the mobility mod tool works or will be working with this card. I currently have the omega drivers installed, and would like to know if installing desktop drivers from a more gaming gear card yield more performance than the omega drivers???
I have not had any issues with this card running the omega drivers, It is not as good as I would have expected (when benchmarking) but it can run WoW at all the highest settings. |

I've got a new Thinkpad T60p and it crashes every 5 minutes while playing WoW. Did you guys ever figure out how to get it running correctly and which drivers were the best?
I've currently got the 4/5/2007 driver from Windows Update. I'm not sure if going back to one of the old 2005 drivers would help at all. |

Well I tried out the Mod Tool with the Catalyst 7.4 drivers and everything installed just fine. Reboot, etc. Then after only 2 minutes in WoW, crash, again. I guess I'll try out the Omega drivers (Catalyst 7.1 version) as suggested above. I certainly wasn't running with max settings.

I have no idea if the ModTool for XP supports that card. The new Mobility Modder.NET that i wrote is for windows vista and does not support XP drivers.

Omega drivers didn't work either. I was in WoW for about 6 minutes this time before my machine hung.

I tried to use the mod tool with the FireGL drivers (http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/fireglv-xp.html). There's no errors when it runs, but when I try to install them, it says that it can't find a valid video card on my system for those drivers.
So here's my results so far: Lenovo Catalyst 5.12/5.13/6.1 based 12/20/2005 - 8.204.0.0 - Bench: 1508 Ran WoW for an hour. No unsupported errors in event log. Lenovo Catalyst Unknown 9/13/06 - Direct3D 6.14.10.0431 - 8.293.1.0 - Bench: 1591 Played WoW for 2 hours in old world and EotS just fine, crash every few minutes in Shadowmoon Valley though. No unsupported errors in event log. Omega Drivers Catalyst 7.1 based 12/16/06 - 8.33.0.0 - 6.14.10.6660 - Bench: 1608 Crashes frequently in WoW. Unsupported errors in event log. ATI Catalyst Mobile 7.4 3/14/07 - 8.360.0.0 - 6.14.10.6683 - Bench: 1612, 1609 Crash after a few minutes in Org. Unsupported errors in event log. ATI Catalyst Modded 7.4 3/14/07 - 8.360.0.0 - 6.14.10.6683 - Bench: 1614 Crash after a few minutes in Org. Unsupported errors in event log. ATI/AMD FireGL Drivers - Won't install, mod tool doesn't support, drivers not made for mobility. |

The tool is only for Vista drivers and only to work with the ATI Catalyst Drivers so not a firegl driver and not in xp.

The latest and best performning drivers that I found were actually from the Windows Update site. They are Lenovo drivers, but I wasn't able to get them from the Lenovo website (maybe it's been updated now).
As for my lock up problem, it's covered in detail here, http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic...afbf2e4d29cc6f My new RAM to replace the defective parts is in the mail atm. |

Well, I'm not crashing at any time other than when I try to play City of Heroes, and the latest driver from windows update sort of makes it even worse. I haven't even been able to get the omegadrivers to work, can you help with this? Which ones do I get? Do I have to choose a soft mod option?

So will there ever be a mod tool for FireGL? It seems like a lot of people have this problem.

I'd like to see someone reverse engineer the FireGL X5200 card to a X1600. So far, where ever i've looked, i've only found softmods for X1600 to GL V5200.

I am working on adding support to mod XP drivers to my Mobility Modder.NET and that should support the firegl cards.

Now i think i have the support for XP, but vista is different, looks like the vista drivers don't support the cards, but i have to look deeper into that.

Thanks for the heads up, but I have a question about this new version - when I used the old driver modder it would make the system recognise my v5200 as a Radeon X1600, but this modder doesn't do that - it is installed as a v5200. Does that impact the performance of using the modded driver at all? Does it disable any chipset features that would be used under X1600? Thanks for any answers you can give. N.

Hi,
i don't know if it has an impact on your performance. But if this VEN_1002&DEV_71C5&SUBSYS_30B4103C is the id of your card then it uses the exact same settings as the X1600. If this is your cards id VEN_1002&DEV_71C4 then it uses GL settings, but you can change that by modifying the following in a modded file: "ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5200" = ati2mtag_M56GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_71C4 Change that into "ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5200" = ati2mtag_M56, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_71C4 Then it uses the X1600 settings.
