Used DhMod, now got 3 processes running
On the ati 8 thmobility 7500, I did an install of the Cat. 6. through dhmod. No problems on installation. Now however, I have 2 ATI icons in the systray and 3 processes in task manager:
ati2evxx.exe owned by the SYSTEM ati2evxx.exe owned by the current user atpitaxx.exe owned by the current user Is this normal? Extra resources are going out. Should I be removing old exe and drivers prior to catalyst? How? Thanks |

Those 3 listings are correct. They are to do with ATIs drivers directly, and not a problem to do with the DHMod tool. The first 2 (which are the same) deals with ATIs Hotkey Poller service. The service has 2 funtions: to deal with the hotkey service so that you can adjust graphics settings with key combinations, and is also part of the overclocking feature. If you are into neither, you can disable it under the Services section in the Control Panel | Administrative Tools. You may also need to disable the Hotkey function under the newer ATI Catalyst Contol Center. Run the CCC, and switch to the Advanced mode. You should see tab called "Hotkeys", and in there just uncheck the "Enable Hotkeys" listing. The other one, atiptaxx.exe, is part of ATIs help service. That one is specificially related to the ATI tray icon you are seeing in the taskbar, but if memory serves that process only shows up if you are using the older ATI Control Panel, and not the new Catalyst Control Panel (with the CCC you should see CLI.exe instead). However, since you are using a mobile chip it could be load for it even if you use the CCC. This is another one you can disable too. In the old ATI Control Panel it is under the Options tab. With the CCC you will need to switch to the Advanced CCC, and it is under Preferences (you should see a listing for "Enable System Tray Icon". Just uncheck it to disable it. |
