It's a very good tool. I search for it about two weeks.

I Tried it with the "7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_44987" multilingual and it was successful.
Than I also installed the "ADVIVO-Converter", it is running with the X600!!!!!
The 3D performing indicator in VISTA (Ultimate) was running up from 1 to 3.6.
So the "aero glass" is running.
The whole system is faster.
My laptop is a Fujidsu Siemens Lifebook E8020D 1,73 GHZ (Centrino), 2 GB RAM, X600. This hardware-configuration is round about two years old.
FSC didn't sopport it for VISTA and didn't help me. They said, it doesn't run with VISTA.
I'm very happy with your tool, I've made a great step with my "old" laptop. I don't need a new one for the next time.
Thanks for your super tool.

Regards Jan

Another dude needs a resolution of 1280x800 for the Mobility Radeon 9700 on FSC AMILO 1425M device.

CCC in modded Catalyst 7.4 does not run and the ATI installer dont find any device for install. (empty list for component in the installer).

Help us please in a short time of waiting... Big THX!

install manager does not install modded driver

I'm trying to install the modded 7.4 driver for my X700 on Vista. The installer seems to find the hardware (driver installation is checkable in custom mode) but exits with a warning.
The installation report says:
"Driver Install: the specified driver package was not installed for matching devices"
CCC seems to install correctly.
What's the problem?

BlackBluegL what is your windows? did you select the right folder like in the instauctions on the website?

SamsungX50 did you also try updating the driver through the device manager? and pointing it to the modified files?

same here, got a fujitsu-siemens xi1554 but only has oem drivers, so the x1900 doesnt work quite so well, is there a fix for this? would be kinda cool to update the driver as theyre about 3 months older than the hardware it seems! thanks alot

Hi!

Thanks for your hardwork! I have an issue when running the modding tool.

According to Mobility Modder log, an error happens whenever I run it (even though the application says nothing about it):

Here's an extract of the log (every other error is the same):

---- Mobility Modder.NET 0.6.7.0 ----
Time: 22:26:25
Location: btnModify
Exception: WinIOError
Error: Impossible de créer un fichier déjà existant.
Extra: Error modding inf file
Trace: à System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)
à System.IO.__Error.WinIOError()
à System.IO.File.Move(String sourceFileName, String destFileName)
à MobilityDotNET.frmMain.AD4m7eX(Object , EventArgs )
--------------------------------------------------------

As you can see I am running a french version of Vista home premium.
"Impossible de créer un fichier déjà existant" translates to Impossible to create an already existing file.

I assume Vista won't let the setup.Exe file to be overwritten like that...

Any suggeston or any way I could set the modifying tool to extract the modified driver in a separate folder?

Thanks in advance.

I have an ASUS Z53 Jp (F3Jp clone) with an ATI X1700.

Same problem here. Using Mobility modder with catalyst 7.4, I can install drivers in my Amilo 1425, but it won't let me choose 1280x800, the maximum I get is 1280x768.

EDIT: Just read more in detail.. I'll try once more (maybe I didn't run Mobility modder well) and if necessary I'll use powerstrip to force the resolution, and post back results.

EDIT2: Powerstrip did the trick. After going to Display settings -> configure -> advanced timings -> custom resolution and adding 1280x800 from the pre-defined resolutions and rebooting, my screen showed display errors as soon as powerstrip started up at boot, so I ser 1280x768 as resolution and tried to modify by hand the settings (such as front porch and all that) and after reboot had the same problem, so this time I clicked on "user defined", deleted the 1280x800 entry and rebooted. After reboot I had a perfectly-working 1280x800 entry. Yay!!

Anyway, it would be good if it was possible to add this resolution to Mobility Mod If necessary, I made screenshots of Powerstrip configuration pages showing the final working settings.

Installing the driver through the device manager worked!
But with the modded 7.4 I am not able to select the internal display as my primary display! That worked with the unmodded 7.4...

Thumbs Up!

Works a treat on my Dell Inspiron 9200 + ATI 9700 running Vista Ultimate, thanks for the hard work to bring this about
  • Didn't install MSXML v4 - I think it's already there
  • Didn't disable UAC - considering what its for I was not taking the risk and all that happened was one prompt from Vista and it modded the files just fine. I'd like to know the thinking behind disabling UAC for this, I only hope it's not for something nafarious

@Taomyn yes it is possible that some other program already installed MSXML 4.0, the UAC is just as precaution, because vista could block the modding of the msi files.

@SamsungX50 can you explain it? because oyu say you had 7.4 installed already?

@ronaldace in the upcomming beta there will be more resolutions.

@EyeOfSeth i think this is fixed in the upcomming version.

Certainly not, as spike said it is merely as a precaution - and we do state to turn it back on after the modding procedure is finished if you so desire - right now our ATI vista driver modder is in early beta stages and we need to be sure problems arent being caused by Vista blocking our file modding, but rather problems with the application itself. We have attempted to make the guide as fool proof as possible. I personally dont run UAC on at all as it is the most intrusive feature in vista and a botched copycat version of MacOSX unix's security system. It may help the average joe who buys vista, but for an educated enthusiast home user, it really is not needed.

Some things in the guide may seem a little obvious to some, however you can see via this thread that we have had issues with people not actually reading the guide properly and various issues cropping up, such as people trying to use it on Windows XP.

We will update the guide page when we get a final release.
