modtool problems with catalyst

getting errors with the modtool for xp on the latest catalyst drivers for xp. I get the message saying "an older version of the catalyst drivers were detected, please remove the ati folder and start over. I also tried running the modtool on the inf file itself and got a unhandled exception error. Then i downloaded the vista modtool and ran it on the xp drivers. That seemed to work as I got a message saying that the msi's were modified. But I still got the errors trying to install the catalyst drivers saying that no matching hardware was found blah blah blah. Any ideas why this is not working?
