DH Modder and the x700 Mobility card

Oh at some times I wish I never started this... But I have to get this to work. I will not be defeated by a stupid VGA card...

I've followed the guide for the DH modder tool, modded the drivers, installed them and unfortunately my laptop doesn't come back again. I've seen this before with other modded drivers like Omega mobility and so on. And as I've seen a couple of users unable to get their x700 card to run, I'm starting this thread to unite us against the evil of the I-only-give-3-year-old-drivers OEM laptop manufacturors.

So here's me case.

Proud owner of an Asus A6Va-Q0016H laptop. Has been running like a bull for almost two years now, but the drivers are way outdated. This means that top-noch games like Battlefield 2 and so don't run like they deserve to be run. This problem would have been solved by simply applying the new drivers to the OEM cards and publishing them online. But no... that's too much work for ASUS. Not only are there new games to play, there are also new Operating Systems to be used (trust me this problems applies to both Vista Ultimate and XP pro).

In Vista however, everything runs fine. Aero runs fine and everything looks good. Now let me install any game that requires some 3d action, and it runs like a mouse with a brick tied to it's tail. Not good! not good at all!
But this problem is easily solved by using the XP driver from the Asus site. Yes! the games run! Not perfectly... but they run! Yay! cool! wait... ehm... Where has Aero gone to? Oh no! "Graphics card not supported by Aero".

So here we go.. Online to support forums, Omega Mobility drivers, DHmodders, Tweakers and cross platform drivers all come with the same result: Reboot during startup. Back to safe mode, roll back drivers: Works... Bugger!

I have tried:
  • MS Driver --> Aero works, Games don't
  • Asus driver --> Aero doesn't work, Games do
  • DH Modded Catalyst 7.4 drivers --> Nothing works
  • Omega mobility drivers --> Nothing works
  • Cross platform drivers --> Where's my hammer?
  • Tweaked drivers for mobility --> Thats it! This means war!
What am I tring now?
Not to raid my saving account to buy a new laptop... And also the drivers on this site:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=100357
Seems promising. But I'm hopefull It will result in the same.

Any suggestions from the DH team?
Any other users that have been able to solve the riddle?
Anyone interested in a second hand laptop?

Sad Same problem

Hey!

I've got the same problem on an ASUS A6v...
When I try to install the modded desktop drivers it detects my GPU and installs the graphic driver.
Vista does ask if I really want to install these drivers (not signed) and I click Yes! Then it installs the drivers, my screen flickers, the screen goes into a lower resolution, I can see the installer, but then I see a cursor in the upperleft corner and the screen goes black...
Then I have to go into safe mode to restory the system...

Any1 able to help?

System Specs

Hi,

i have download the the old asus driver for this notebook and will look into it and see why it could happen.

Do you also have real vista driver for the chipset? Because i have notived by some other people that had problems that it was caused by that. They had XP drivers installed for their chipset.

I've downgraded my chipset drivers from 8.3.xxx to 8.2.xxx from the Intel website. Trying again....

That didn't help...
We called asus, the advised to install drivers from the W1 laptop, but that didn't work neither. They advised me that Vista is not yet supported by them with this laptop. This should mean that it should be supported in the near future. Lets hope so. For now i'll use the original drivers and stick to the problem. Aero will just have to wait till Asus gets it's rear into gear, or the good people from DH find a workaround for this. If they do I will love them forever! Not that that counts for anything though...

Will report if anything changes.
Scratch my back please...
