Mobility Radeon 9700 and Windows Vista

I recently installed Windows Vista Ultimate on my laptop, having 'upgraded' from Windows XP Professional SP2. The display drivers that were included on the install DVD (WDDM ones) work well with my Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics card. However, whenever I try to play any of the games in my collection the gameplay is spoiled by a display that 'stutters', not badly but just enough to make it a very frustrating affair :-( The annoying thing is that I never had this problem at all on Windows XP.

I did think that it might be something to do with the original drivers being out of date or in someway incompatible with the games I was trying to play. So I set about updating them and finally managed to successfully install the latest ATi Catalyst drivers - modified with Mobility Modder - and tried again. Unfortunately the same thing happened as before :-( Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do so that I can play my games properly, as I was able to do on Windows XP?

The best thing to do is update all drivers with vista drivers like chipset and soundcard. That could already help.

I already have updated Vista drivers for my soundcard. How do I find out what chipset I have, and whereabouts would I look for the Vista drivers for it? Thanks

Best you can do is check the site from your notebook manufacturer like Asus, MSI or such a site., there is always a place where you can download new drivers and maybe they also have vista drivers.

Apparently there aren't any Vista drivers for my SiS 755 (northbridge) and 963 (southbridge) chipset. At the SiS website there is an online tool to check if your computer needs updated drivers, and it's suggesting I could do with new drivers for my 'acceleration graphic port', 'IDE controller', 'SiS 7012 audio controller', and 'SiS 900 fast ethernet controller'. Do you think if I installed the relevant ones (I'm guessing the AGP and possibly the audio controller) it would do the trick?! Thanks again.

Yes the AGP could do the trick if oyu installed that and the audio would also be good to install then you are sure everything works good togheter.

Can you also send me an dxdiag dump to info@drivercleaner.net? then i can check the ids from the ati chipset.

I would install those drivers from sis that it recommends and then try to install the new driver.

I will take another look at the drivers and see if i missed something. Maybe something that makes it work by some and some not.

I've decided I'm gonna go back to Windows XP (Media Center Edition). Vista is a lovely looking OS and the indexed search facility is great, but there are just too many niggling little problems for me at the moment. Thanks for your help.
