dxdiag says that i have the old ati dirvers, is this right

Hi i have a mobility radeon 9700 128 mb and win vista. I did use the mood program and ati drivers 7.4 and everything went well.

Now when i try to play half-life 2 right before the game gonna start stem says that my drivers are old. They say that i have 7.14.10.489. I went to the dvice manager and check if the drivers really was this old and i found out that no there were not, they were 8.360. So steam is lying then right? Then i after this i went to dxdiag and they report that i have the same driver version az steam did, Um this ati catalyst 7.4 thing is really not uppdateing anything then. I think that these are the exact drivers that vista installed right after i installed the OS. So any help with this? if yo want i can prove all this but i hope there is a easy answer to all this.

Have you tried uninstalling the ati drivers and catalyst control center throught add / remove programs and then reinstall the modded drivers?

hello again i have tried all the things possible. one thing i can tell yo now is that i seem to have to latest drivers, i took a look on the mood site pictures, the catalyst controlpanel of the ati x1800 and i have the same drivers. But why does steam or half life 2 tell me that my drivers are not uptodate? any one have this problem aswell?

no not all of them. this is ati fault. I mean if yo make a graphic card yo make drivers to it as well. am not gonna buy ati card again. is nvidia better?

Have you also tried running any other games then steam games?

Have you also tried starting the games with -d3d behind it in steam?

I saw on the steam forum that also some people with nvidia have the same problem. I am not sure how steam works with the drivers, if they supply it with the games or not. You could try as last resort uninstalling steam and the games and reainstall it, maybe it will use the right drivers then.

I have been having the same problems on my machine (Acer Ferrrai 4005). Installing the latest drivers via mobility modder works fine, but i've noticed quite a few games (namely ubisoft ones - they have a 'system check' app that runs after you install them to verify that your machine is up to date) are reporting that I still have the older versions of drivers installed. Uninstalling / reinstalling doesn't seem to have corrected it.

I'm also having issues with my dual monitor system - plugging a second monitor into my laptop has killed all 3d rendering support on the primary monitor (ie the screen built into the laptop). With the second monitor activated, 3d windows WILL NOT render anything whatsoever.

Very strange. dhmodtool3 & 4 worked fine - but they don't seem to work with the latest drivers from ati for whatever reason.

Just checked the driver properties themselves - and they are reporting that the system is using the 8.380 drivers, but that they aren't 'digitally signed'...maybe that's the problem?

I'm wondering if the games are reporting the last digitally signed driver that was installed? the 6.8 drivers (the ones that the game utilities are reporting) just might be the ones that shipped with the laptop when i first got it (several years ago).

Just a thought. I'll try to double check the 'digital signing' thing and driver versions a bit more.

Not being able to use 3d windows on my primary monitor is killing me though - everything i do involves 3d modeling packages / game editors and none of them work now with the latest versions of mobility modder-installed drivers.
