Sadly, I am one of those poor souls with the DirectDraw and Direct3D failure. I have a Toshiba Satellite A70 PSA70C-00V00E with a Radeon 9100 IGP.

I used MM on the following Catalyst install: hotfix_xp32_8-471-1-1-080324b-61196.exe

I would just like to verify that I selected the correct one, the step-by-step told me to get the latest DESKTOP Catalyst, but it seems awfully strange downloading that instead of the Catalyst for chips integrated with the motherboard.

I think I can still emulate Pokemon Pearl with OpenGL, but I need Direct3D to run Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, so I would appreciate hearing about this problem the INSTANT someone figures it out.

Other information about my system that may help:
Up until earlier today I used Omega 3.8.252 Drivers and encountered the exact same DirectDraw and Direct3D problems. I first noticed this problem yesterday during a strange problem with my Sound Card displaying greyed out Control Panel controls (as if no driver was installed) -- even though Realtek AC97 was still sitting in the Device Manager list with no errors, same as always.

I fiddled with things and went to sleep frustrated and woke up with that problem magically solved all by itself, but the Direct3D problems I noticed yesterday still remain.

Someone solve the riddle! And email me the fix! Haaalp!
Try the one i linked to from sapphire instead it may vary slightly. The desktop package is the one to go for if you are downloading from game.amd.com. However, ATI do supply a mobility package for XP so I can see your confusion here. The mod tool is designed for use with the desktop version though. Hope this helps. If you still get the direct3d problems then i guess this fix only works for desktop boards. The same annoying issue though!

The alternative is to use version 7.12 which does not suffer this problem. You can download it from the driverheaven mirror for ATI here:

I'd like to extend my gratitude to those responsible for the development of this fine utility. It helped me solve an issue that I had with the 'official' Catalyst Mobility drivers, which caused a BSOD every time I restarted my Asus F3Ja laptop with an X1600. Details for anyone Googling this issue: BAD_POOL_CALLER, 0x000000c2.

Simply installing the desktop drivers after modding them with this mod tool made me a happy camper

firegl v5600

Hi, any chance with firegl v5600? This is the only graphic card of this generation that is not supported here.

Thank you.

I'm having some trouble.

First, I get an error when I try to open Mobility Modder. It says unhandled exception... system reflection target invocation exception and goes on and on.

Second, I don't understand step 3 in the step by step guide..
[Download the newest desktop drivers from www.ati.com (or get them from Driver Heaven Downloads). If you are using Windows XP make sure to download .net framework from Microsoft (this is built into Windows Vista so there is no need to install it).]

I have mobility radeon 9700. Is that step telling me to go to ATI.com and download that thing to check if my computer is compatible for catalyst,? Please fill me in.

After looking hours and hours for this damn driver, I finally decided to use the omega driver 3.8.442 which I have no clue what it is. I tried playing counter-strike but it won't let me play in open GL so i have to play in D3D. Can someone tell me the difference between an omega driver and the normal ATI one?

btw, do i need SP2 for mobility modder?

Thanks

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!

First you are using XP or Vista? If you have XP make sure that you have .NET Framework 2.0 installed on your system.

You need to download the Desktop version of the drivers not the mobile/IGP driver.
Difference in Omga's is that the .inf files have been modified to support older cards and Omega turned on some tweaks that are normally turned off. As for OpenGL issues there has been a ton of those with mobility chipset users using Omegas and the drivers that has been modded with the mod tool.

I think SP2 is not needed but highly recommended!

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am using XP sp1. I did get the .NEt framework 2.0 and i still get that error. Maybe corrupted installation?

If I succesfully did get mobility modder to do its job, will I still have open GL problems like that?

Try to uninstall the mobility modder and then re-install it.
I think so that you would encounter issues with OpenGL. But I'm not 100% sure. I think that Spike the maker of the mod tool might have the correct answer to that.
[EDIT] Only way to know is just to test how it goes...

Hello there

I'm trying to install Catalyst 8.3 to my Dell Inspiron 'Pile of Crap' 6000 (hehe) I have Radeon Mobility x300.

I have windows xp; the problem is, is that every time I reboot my computer, I'll get a BSoD...once I reboot once, it starts up correctly, but I'd rather not have one every time I need to restart Also, I'm having the same issue many others reported in the DirectDraw/Direct 3D area.

Thanks for making this mod, and even more if you can help me to resolve these issues--I'll be forever in your debt! =D

You might try some older drivers. You can found them at http://www.driverheavendownloads.net/ati.htm

Thank you spike. Only one thing fyi, if you found the v5600 firegl drivers from hp 8510w, I must say one thing, the drivers for hd 2600 (8510w) and the firegl v5600 (8510p) are the same with the same ID, because hp, patch the subsystem ID in the ati2mtag.sys to difference them. Be carefull. Then, that is both cards are the same at least in HP, only the subsystem id, difference each one have opengl capacities. Sorry for my english.

That is mobile chipset? If it is then there won't ever be official support for it from AMD.

New Catalyst 8.4 - Direct3D fixed?

Just tried the new Catalyst 8.4 on an AGP desktop system with Sapphire Radeon X1600 Pro. No Direct3D problem any more it is running fine whereas with 8.1, 8.2 or 8.3 it didn't and required the hotfix. The same may now apply to the notebooks which have been suffering the issue as well. Worth a try. Seems AMD have not released a separate hotfix either this time round so it may be possible for the affected users to recompose this package with the mod tool and create some decent up-to-date drivers at last.

Direct3D still won't work for me.

I'm the guy with the Radeon 9100 IGP one page back in this thread.

I tried everything I could think of tonight and still no satisfaction. This is the list of things I did that did NOT fix Direct3D:
  • Omega Drivers
  • 8.3 Catalyst with Mob Mod
  • 8.3 Hotfix with Mob Mod
  • 8.4 Catalyst with Mob Mod
  • 8.4 Hotfix with Mob Mod
  • Old stable 7.12 Catalyst (as per recommendation) with Mob Mod
  • Reinstalling DirectX 9.0c
Direct3D was working fine with the Omega drivers for about a year up until some point last week. I don't know what exactly caused it to fail, I was having trouble with my sound card and by the time that cleared up, Direct3D was gone.

Is this problem caused by some recent Windows Update? Why is this happening?

And a new question: I've been uninstalling drivers by selecting ATI - Software Uninstall Utility from the Add/Remove Programs list and then rebooting. Is that bad? I notice there's a "driver cleaner" program, do I need that? I got one blue-screen-of-death error while installing all these drivers. And I've noticed my No$GBA emulator has stopped working, which means no more Pokemon Pearl for me. Which is strange, as that was set up to use OpenGL... I'm hoping that problem will go away once I fix Direct3D and switch back to either 8.4 Catalyst (modded) or Omega.

Anyways, in conclusion, I currently have:
  • Toshiba Satellite A70
  • Radeon 9100IGP
  • Catalyst 7.12 with Mob Mod applied
  • Probably crap left all over my registry from all these driver installs/uninstalls
  • NO DIRECT3D CAPABILITY
Haaalp. Haaaaaaalp. Halp?

Shame to hear the Direct3D issue has not been resolved for you. I still believe it has nothing whatsoever to do with the mod tool and is specific to the Catalyst packages 7.12 onwards (seige - my recommendation sorry, thought these would be ok as they worked on my legacy AGP desktop ok as per my post about 8.4). Which version of the DirectX Runtime do you have installed? March 2008? I know you can't uninstall DirectX but wonder if the updated runtimes have affected older products somehow too.

If you are selecting uninstall ALL ATI software you should be clearing the drivers and catalyst properly. However it is still possible there are residual files left on your system. DriverCleaner is probably the safest option to ensure your system is thoroughly purged after that many different installations.

Since you got so old card 9100IPG is rather old today's standards. I recomend using older driver like Omega's based on CAT 6.X. Recently I've fixed one laptop with 9000 mobility on it and installed Omegas based on CAT 6.5 and it works just fine. And there aren't any improvements for those older chips on the 7.X and 8.X series of CAT drivers.

For Vista 64bit it will only work if the driver signing is disabled. By Vista 64bit if the driver is not whql signed it will not install. I am not sure if that is the same on xp 64bit.
