Problems installing ATI drivers

I have ATI mobility radeon x300 for Dell Inspiron 6000. I have windows XP and I tried following the directions on the installation website but it's not working for me. The new drivers aren't replacing the factory installed drivers and I have no idea how to do this manually.

Does the installer give an error orso by installing the drivers?
