Mobility Modder and External Screens

Hi,

My System spec
Vista Business (32bit)
AMD processer
ATI Mobility X1600 pro 256mb
External screen LG 204WT (connected by DVI)

Im brand new to this forum, go easy on me

I recently brought an external screen for my laptop. I noticed that my graphics drivers were out of date. After finding that ATI are not supporting Mobility Cards anymore, i came across your site. (I have previously used Omega drivers on my other pc)

With Catalyst 7.2(last official version to support mobility) my external screen is detected and I am able to use dual monitors (and using powerstrip, I am able to force the correct resolution).- all works really well

I now want to be up to date. I am able to update to ATI Catalyst 8.1 and used the mobility modder, but my external screen is not detected. If this a known problem.

Many Thanks for any help i receive!

greg

since the modder just modifies the .inf files, it adds device ID's to it. you have tested Ati Tray Tools with the new drivers? ATT might be able to force this better than Riva Turner.

Thanks for the reply.

So install the new drivers using the Modder, then hunt around in the settings to see if i can force detection?

I tried using ATI Tools, still no luck. The moment i uninstall the Display Driver my external screen comes back to life. Here is a screenshot with 8.1 Installed, ATI Tools running:

Im not sure why the screenshot has come out like that though :S

Hi,

to be honest i have no idea why it happens, because like temeteus82 says it only adds soem settings and device id's. Will need to check on this.

Re: Mobility Modder and External Screens

Hi to all,

sorry to bring this thread up again, but I have the same problem with an Radeon 9000 chip.

The second screen will not work until I uninstall the modded driver and install the "originial" (but older) one.

The modded desktop driver is based on this version: 6-11-pre-r300_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_38185.exe

I would also like to know what the Mobility Modder is doing behind the scene to modify a desktop driver. Where can I get some information about that?

Thanks,
Maik
