Install wrongly detecting MOBILITY RADEON X2500

Hi guys, I have an with Acer Aspire 4920G with ATI Mobility RADEON x2500 with 256mb dedicated and 256mb shared memory and 2GB RAM.

I used the mobility modder and it worked well but for some reason when I run the modified ATI Driver installer 8.1, my video card is detected as a mobility x 1700 and the driver for this is installed instead.

I havent been able to forcefully change it into x2500.

May I ask for some advice?

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven.

The mod tool as far as I know hasn't been updated with the device ID's of the newer chips. So that's why it might detect the chip as different chip or not at all. But since the driver files are the same for all you don't need to worry much. But to fix this issue in the next version you could provide the device ID of that X2500 so that it gets fixed. You can find it by running dxdiag and clicking the save all information button and save the txt file to desktop. Look up the ID. It should look like this : "Enum\PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7280&SUBSYS_E190174B&REV_00 "

Hi temeteus. Thank you for your response. Please forgive me, I am very new to this process. I need to ask you where to find that dxdiag utility tool. I tried looking for it in the mod tool folder but I couldn't find it. Is it something that installs with the .NET framework? Or is it something that comes with Windows itself?

the dxdiag is part of DirectX and you can run it just clicking star/run and type dxdiag and then click the Ok button.

Hi,

the modder has the id's in it, but the x2500 has the same id and settings as a x1700 only different clock speeds and i thought some other things, but they just use the same settings. So it doesn't really matter. Will need to check if i can add those subsys id's, but only every manufacturer uses different ones i thought.

Forgive my ignorance but may I ask this: Will the x2500 run as an x2500 or will it run as per the specifications of the x1700? I don't know the difference between the two cards, but assuming the x1700 has a slower graphics processing unit, will my x2500 run at a crippled speed? Or perhaps not utilize the total memory on the card if the x1700 is supposed to come with less onboard RAM?
I'm sorry, I haven't run the diagnosic to pull out that ID yet. Let me try and do it after I finish this post, I will go dig out my laptop and turn it on.

it will run the speed specified for the chip and the chip isn't cripled.
