256MB instead of 128MB memory detected, normal?

Hello

I recently installed the new catalyst 8.5 on my Mobility Radeon X700 128MB. The laptop is running Windows XP.
I have probably since then some problems with the laptop (standby, hibernation not always waking up correctly).
The issue that I could find, was that the CCC and also the Hardware Properties in Windows show me 256MB for my card, but my card has only 128MB.
I used DH Mobility Modder 1.0.0.0 to mod the drivers and install them.

Here some hardware details:
Graphics Card Manufacturer Powered by ATI
Graphics Chipset ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700
Device ID 5652
Vendor 1002

Subsystem ID 1962
Subsystem Vendor ID 1043

Bus Type PCI Express
Current Bus Setting PCI Express x16

BIOS Version 009.010.001.000
BIOS Part Number 050914R1/rel9.11.1.0/CL204803
BIOS Date 2005/09/14

Memory Size 256 MB
Memory Type HyperMemory

Core Clock in MHz 344 MHz
Memory Clock in MHz 331 MHz

Primary Display Yes

Is that normal or is that a known issue?

thanks,
pato

I think it could be that there is shared memory with the main system memory. Can you check that? Maybe in the bios.

It could be shared memory, but the Bios doesn't show anything.
But I just remembered GPU-Z, that one shows correct 128MB memory.

So I guess there is everything ok.

It says "Memory Type: HyperMemory", so I guess that explains it. If I'm correct, HyperMemory is automatically activated on cards with a lower amount of on-board memory (I can't remember since what driver version though, it's been a while). I have pretty much the same thing, even though CCC, under Graphics Hardware, states that I have 128MB of on board memory, when I go to Display Properties (the Windows ones, not in CCC) and click on Advanced, it says "Total Available Graphics Memory 255MB, Dedicated Video Memory 128MB, Shared System Memory 127MB". All this with the dated Cats 7.10 on Windows Vista Business x64 SP1 and Radeon 9800Pro 128MB.
