Ahh problems.

I have my dad's old work lap top (which is pretty banged up) and so I started taking it to my work. The thing is probably 5 years old. It is a Sony Vio PCG-Z1VA. I am currently running vista on it, because I can and XP doesn't install any drivers from the get go (including ethernet or optical so its almost impossible to get drivers onto this damn thing).

I got everything to work except my display drivers! So I think this program is my only hope but I could not get it to work with the newest catalyst drivers! I fallowed the directions clearly, so I do not think it was that problem.

Currently I am going to try it with an older catalyst driver hope that works.

Also to answears "What gfx card do you have?". Seriosly I don't know. Device manager says "Generic plug and play vga". The information from sony says the same thing (as well as severall other sights).
"So how do you know its a radeon?". The default 32bit xp drivers from sony are for a radeon.

Any ideas/tips?

companies put DRM on the display drivers so they can only use manufacturer drivers, in this case, you need Sony VGA drivers so you need to look on sony's site to find them,

the alternative is DH's own Mobility Modder but that costs money.

Mobility Modder is free I thought, http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modtool.php, as I have it downloaded on my desk top.

Also the sony drivers are only for XP.

woops thought it was something that DH sold since it hit its final version......

well thats prettymuch your best bet... Mobility Modder, youll need to find the drivers for your card on the ATi site and use it to get it to install.....

Hard to find drivers for a card if there is no way to find out what card you have.

DxDiag also refered to it as a standard vga, as did 2 sites with "system specs" of this comp, ... etc.

Will update on how using a very old version of catalyst works.

PS the mobility modder post has some cases of where a forward slash should be a back slash. C:/ should be C:\ etc

After modification of old drivers, installer crashed. Trying the next release of driver.

I can tell for sure that there are no vista drivers for that card. It could indeed be like a 7000IGP or 1 of the first mobility chipsets. The only thing you can do is trying to install the Sony XP drivers on vista.

No go.
"This update is for Windows XP only."
And its a self install so I am not sure how to get the driver out and mod it, or even if thats possible.

Ahh problems indeed!

I also updated a Sony Z1VA to vista and have the same problem. The original display adapter is a mobility radeon 6.14.10.6404. I had no problem with modifying the XP driver but got the same message. Is there a way to replace an XP driver with a vista driver?

I had installed Modtoo for my HP Presario X1000 ATI Dispaly driver.
But when I finish and restart system. The system comes to blank screen.
The only way is change back to OLD Driver to makes the screen display back again.
I don't know what's happen on it. Can anyone help me?

My system detail info as below:
HP (Compaq Presario X1000)
ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 Display Card. (Original driver version 6.14.10.6342)
1G RAM
60G HDD
Windows XP SP2
DirectX 9.0c
.NET 2.0

Catalyst Mobility 8.6 (This is the driver version what I want to install)

Thanks
