Mobility Modder v1.1.1.0 not working
Hi there, I'm experiencing problems with the MM: tried to mod and install Cat8.8 in august and Cat8.10 now, but it does no more do the trick. When I modify the drivers, I find it's much slower than prev versions, and I get a BSOD when I launch the installation, at the point in which it has to detect the device. I'd like to try with an old version (I installed Cat8.4, probably using v1.0.0.0), but can't find a previous versions database, could somebody upload and/or link please? Or is there a known solution for that?
Oh, I'm modding the Catalyst for my good old Packard Bell EasyNote R8770, Mobility 9700 on board. Running Vista SP1. P.S.: I'm glad to see there's an Nvidia MM! I'll try it on the Compaq ASAP & then report my feedback.

Re: ATi Mobility Modder v1.1.1.0 Released
Ok, I found a v1.1.0.0 of the MM and everything was fine with Cat 8.11.
Before this, I tried to modify the same driver with the latest v1.1.1.0 and got the same BSOD as with Cat 8.8 and 8.10. That is after launching the installation, while the installer attempts to detect the video card. If you want me to post some log file or to upload the modded files somewhere to understand why it doesn't work for me, just ask. As always, thank you for your care |

Re: ATi Mobility Modder v1.1.1.0
Hi Everyone,
I like the work you guys do and I would appreciate any help you guys can provide me. I have a couple issues with MM.. 1. It wont let me switch to full screen mode with any of my players. Error Message says: "To use the Full Screen command, you may ned to adjust your Windows display settings. Open Display in Control Panel, and try setting Hardware acceleration to Full" I checked that and everything is to where it's supposed to. 2. It wont let me play DVDs at all. Error Message says: "Create Overlay failed. Please lower your screen resolution or color depth and try again" The max resolution is 1024x768 and the lowest 800x600 .. I tried all the ones available and it keeps giving the same error. Both worked well with the dafault driver but they dont with this one ![]() I have 2 laptops trying to get this to work and in both it shows me same messages. the laptops are a compaq nx9010 and a compaq Evo1020v and both have the Mobility Radeon IGP340/345M Both are P4/2Ghz/1GB-ram with XP SP3 Im sure it's just one of those little bugs with an easy fix.. but I cant find the tweak ![]() Any suggestions? thanks for any help

Hello folks,
I have tried this tool which seems to help a lot of people. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me when I tried it with the latest Catalyst drivers (8.11). Hi guys,
First of all, thank you for this great tool which has been a great help for me. I have a Asus F3JP notebook with a ATI X1700 (Vista 32 bits). The reason why I got it in the first place was to run Second Life. I was very disapointed when I found out that it was not running, but after searching on the web, I found the ATI Modder and it just solved the problem. A few months later, I had to reinstall Vista. Still used the Modder with success. Second Life was still running. Now, I have once again to reinstall Vista. I have used again the Modder and it does look successful (no error message), but this time, Second Life is not starting anymore (the program tells me that I do not have the right graphic drivers, just like if I did not use the Modder). My first attempt was with the latest desktop ATI Catalyst driver for Vista 32 bits (8.12). No success. So I tried to download previous drivers from here: Previous Catalyst™ Display Drivers for Windows Vista (32 bit) - Motherboard/IGP Drivers So far, I have tried the latest version of the Modder using ATI drivers 7.12 to 8.3 (I have selected these drivers because of the date they have been published, this matches more or less the last time I successfully used the Modder). I have of course a few questions 1/ Does anyone know how to fix my current problem? 2/ Is there an archive of previous releases of the Modder? I am willing to give it a try because I really don't know what else to do 3/ I am not at all familiar with graphic drivers in general, but I am not sure how to unistall them in a proper way. I first tried the "uninstall" option from ATI but as I was not sure it is working properly, I ended up by reinstalling Vista every time I try the Modder with a new version of the ATI drivers (not need to mention how time consuming this is). How can I make sure to uninstall all previous ATI drivers without going through a complete Vista installation? As you noticed, I am not at all a computer expert ![]() Thank you in advance for your help |

Re: ATi Mobility Modder v1.1.1.0 Released
I have used ATI Mobility Modder v1.1.1.0 to install Catalyst 8.10 for XP on my ASUS V6Va with Mobility Radeon X700. I did so to enable HyperMemory.
Everything works fine except every day or two, XP Pro SP3 crashes, sometimes just by freezing and other times giving me a blue screen with a page full of jargon I cannot of course copy and paste--I did not have this problem before the change. Is there a known fix for this problem? Also, is there a way to change the amount of HyperMemory from the extra (in RAM of course) 128 MB it adds to the 128 MB of the card? Edit: I see that Catalyst 8.12 for XP is available. Should I go ahead and install it--might that fix the problem? Edit: Card name: ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700 Chip type: ATI Radeon Graphics Processor (0x5652) DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz) Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5652&SUBSYS_19621043&REV_00 Display Memory: 256.0 MB Current Mode: 1400 x 1050 (32 bit) (60Hz) Last edited by rahasyavadi; Dec 21, 2008 at 06:15 PM. |

"Problems with Radeon 9700 Pro and Windows XP ? On machines with the 9700 Pro card & running Windows XP Symptoms: After a system lockup or freeze during a game, or software installation, or Windows defrag, Windows gives a blue screen error mentioning IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL and Windows says it has recovered from a serious error and wants to send info to Microsoft. Details say that a minidump has occured. Following this error, anytime you attempt to defrag your hard drive you again get the blue screen error. Cause: Somehow your Windows Profile got messed up or corrupted or not saved properly to the hard drive. Apparently a form of the Infinite Loop type messup. Quick Solution: 1) Reboot your system. 2) Go into the User Accounts section of the Control Panel. 3) Create a New User Acoount with a completely different name and be sure that the new account has Administrator privileges. 4) Reboot Windows and at the logon screen choose to log on with the New User Account you just set up. 5) Go START/RUN and type CHKDSK in the box and click OK. 6) CheckDisk will run and you may observe that at the end of its run that is finding some files it does not like and it automatically deletes them. 7) At this point Windows is now fixed and you may now reboot and logon to Windows under your regular name. You also may now go delete that New User Account you had set up to do this fix. It is not necessary to remove any ATI drivers or reinstall anything. I have further discovered that you may reduce the tendency for your machine to go thru these type symptoms by disabling Write Combining. Microsoft has this to say regarding the infinite loop lockup: This issue can occur when the display driver is caught in an infinite loop, typically waiting for the video hardware to become idle. This usually indicates a problem with the video hardware or with the display driver not being able to program the hardware correctly. To work around this issue: Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display. On the Settings tab, click Advanced, and then click the Troubleshoot tab. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider to None, and then click to clear the Enable Write Combining check box. Click OK, and then click OK. NOTE: This procedure prevents the display driver from programming the hardware incorrectly, but results in a loss of some display functionality and performance. Although you can increase the hardware acceleration settings to a point above None to regain functionality and performance, this increases the chances of the issue reoccurring. For maximum stability, leave hardware acceleration off. [end of Microsoft info and the following are my notes] I have disabled Write Combining on my machine and have found no performance loss in games so far. I did NOT lower any hardware acceleration as yet. That may not be necessary. I have had this 9700 Pro awhile and have found some problems with both the driver on the CD and also the drivers on the ATI web page. The best thing to use is the 7.77 drivers found at nVIDIA Geforce 280 260 9800 9600 8800 8600 GT GTX AMD ATI Radeon HD 4850 4870 X2 - Guru of 3D: PC Hardware Reviews . They are also at ATI, hidden, but it is a slow download there. You should know that, it is *very important* that you first remove all mention of any previous drivers before installing these 7.77 drivers. Do not skip this step. If you do not remove previous drivers you may find that it runs great for a while, then later slows way way down to sluggish speed. Its filename ends with the numbers 6178 by the way. The correct uninstall procedure for this is not the normal one I'd been used to. The following procedure to remove all mention of previous ATI drivers was sent to me by ATI support and here it is: 1. Boot into safe mode (hold down shift or press F8 during bootup) 2. Once in safe mode, right-click on My Computer, then click Properties, then Hardware 3. Go to Device Manager, and open Display Adapters 4. Remove any items under Display Adapters 5. Open Control Panel, then go to Add/Remove Programs 6. Remove ATI Multimedia Center, and any ATI entries other than ATI Display Driver 7. Open Device Manager, and remove any ATI drivers under Sound, Video and Game Controllers 8. Delete the folders C:\ati and C:\Program Files\ATI Multimedia 9. Click Start, then Run 10. Type Regedit and click Ok 11. Click Registry and export the Registry to a file, so as to back it up 12. Open the folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER, open Software and remove any ATI entries 13. Open the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, open Software and remove any ATI entries 14. Close any open windows and reboot 15. Once in Windows, install the ATI drivers and software [This ends the part from ATI and the following are my notes again] Also the correct procedure for installing drivers is the following according to Intel, with the exception of my note on step 3. 1) First install Windows 2) Install Windows Updates and patches 3) Install Motherboard Chipset Drivers (also I install the Application Accelerator at this point) 4) Install other device drivers; video card, sound card, etc. 5) Install DirectX. So, before you installing those new driver u must be booted up in SVGA mode. Before installing any new Intel or VIA chipset drivers be sure be running in standard VGA mode too, then install your video drivers after a reboot. Anyway, doing all of the above made it work great on my machine, whereas trying other things and drivers had made it fail before, in some way or another. I had previously had problems with Delayed Write Failed or Windows not finding some of my personal settings files on bootup, after which Windows would be messed up. It is now performing fast and stable. Click on the Compatibility Options button in the OpenGL tab and enable those two things in there to make it work good for Battlefield 1942. FPS is also very good now in Soldier of Fortune 2 and also Unreal Tournament 2003 demo and Giants Citizen Kabuto. FPS exceeds that which was possible with the Xtasy Visiontek GF4 Ti4600 128mb card for every game tried." [end of all quoted material: back to rahasyavadi] I did not decelerate the card at all, and not all the recommended steps in driver uninstalling were possible, and I did not reinstall Windows, but everything seems to be working great for several days now. I am now running Catalyst 8.12. A post by a former PROPortable dealer on one of the forums at notebookreview.com appeared to indicate that the X700 card enables only 128 MB of HyperMemory for any amount of RAM. I recently purchased an Alienware M17 with the intention of using AMD stream. This needs driver 8.56, but Alienware are still shipping 8.52, and even OCZ (their upstream supplier, I think) is only at 8.54. I eventually found links to your utility on the AMD Game forum. Following your instructions exactly seems to have done the trick, by which I mean:- - Games - CIV 4 worked fine - Video - Random music DVDs work fine - AMD Stream - the SDK samples work fine The only minor issue you may be interested in is that the card description is set to ... "ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 3270 X2 (Default LCD)" But the card is actually a plain 3270, not a 3270 X2. This is not explained by crossfire mode, as I only bought 1 card, in the expectation that the 4870 would soon be available. Thanks again for your efforts. R. |

Re: ATi Mobility Modder v1.1.1.0 Released
In the long run, the last conditions I mentioned on this thread were also unstable, and even unstable with graphics acceleration all the way off, but the ATI recover utility actually automatically reset the driver setup a few times over the course of a few days, and everything has remained stable ever since. The ATI Catalyst Control Center no longer works because the current driver setting is incompatible with it, but HyperMemory still works.
By the way, my system works *faster* with graphics acceleration all the way off! This ironic acceleration with the accelerations off is very pronounced in the particular astrology application I had wanted to get improved performance, so I am a happy camper. Maybe soon I will install Catalyst driver suite 7.12 to see if it is perfectly stable, inspired by this information in the W3J owners' lounge of the ASUS section of Notebook Forums and Laptop Discussion - Powered by vBulletin: Last edited by rahasyavadi; Jan 25, 2009 at 07:19 PM. |

Re: ATi Mobility Modder v1.1.1.0 Released
I have just tested Version 1.1.1.0 of Mobility Modder with Catalyst 8.12 and it appears that it doesn't mod the .inf file properly for Mobility Radeon HD 3470 support.
After installing the modded driver display properties show 512MB of VRAM when there is only 256MB. All values under the OpenGLDrivers registry key are missing and thus only Microsoft software OpenGL is available. Furthermore, HD 3450 PCI ID is wrong -- original ATI .inf shows VEN_1002&DEV_95C5 while your tool sets it to VEN_1002&DEV_95C4 which is actually a device ID for the HD 3470. I have tried modding the drivers manually from the original .inf by adding only the following line: Code:
"ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470" = ati2mtag_RV610, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_95C4 The only problem I have is that system event log shows "ativvaxx.dll failed to load" -- it happens with both manually modded drivers, and with those modded by Mobility Modder. Oh, and if you wonder why I am not using Catalyst 9.1, that is because they don't work properly in 2D (Photoshop CS3 image windows get corrupted when zooming out). You can see my specs in System Specs. D'oh!

Re: ATi Mobility Modder v1.1.1.0 Released
Hello All,
I have just modded the Catalyst 9.1 Drivers using Mobility Modder 1.1.1.0. However, it is misreporting my graphics cards. My machine is setup as follows: 2 x ATI Mobility Radeon 3870 in CrossfireX configuration Vista x64 However, after modding and installing Catalyst 9.1, Device Manager is reporting that I have 2 3870 x2's. I know that this is not due to having 2 3870's in CrossfireX, as someone above has mentioned that they are getting a 3870 x2 being reported when they have just one 3870. I am wondering what error is causing this, and how I should proceed. Should I manually change each card in Device Manager to 3870 (which btw, I already tried once but it would only change 1, the second kept being reported as 3870 x2 even after I manually forced a change! ), or should I leave it as it is?I'm also wondering which parts of the modded .INF are incorrect, and can I correct the .INF lines manually. If so, what files/lines/settings etc. should I be looking for? Finally, I am getting some instability when playing CS:S where none existed previously. Is this just a bug with the new drivers, or could the incorrect driver (i.e. 2 x 3870 x2 instead of 2 x 3870) be causing the instability? Any advice would be most welcome. ![]() -------------------------------------------------------------------- Notebook Specs.: Alienware M17 Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad QX9300 2.53GHz Dual 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 in CrossfireX 4GB Dual Channel DD3 1067MHz 1920 x 1200 WUXGA LCD 2 x 250MB 7200 RPM SATA RAID 0 |

AW: ATi Mobility Modder v1.1.1.0 Released
Hello,
I've just registered just because the mobility modder doesn't operate properly for me. Notebook: T60p with ATi Mobility FireGL V5250 OS: Vista x64 Ultimate Lenovo is offering a driver package for Vista64, but it's way too old (from 2007). Therefore I tried the MM on a fireGL driver called FirePro_8.583_Vista64_77160 and yes, it mods them, but the setup still will not install the driver. Advice appreciated. ![]() Thanks, pajaa |
