Mobility Radeon 9700 Problem

Hi guys,

Just wondering why AGP Texture Acceleration for my laptop seems to be "Not Available"? Running the newest Omega drivers modded with the mod tool. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi there!

You really don't need to mod the Omega drivers since they already have the support for your mobility chip. So could you try to use normal omega drivers to see if it makes any difference...

No change. Although now my display is very laggy and dragging around windows is a pain. Thinking of going back to modded tool. Suggestions? Also the display section of DxDiag now seems to have DirectDraw and Direct3D Acceleratoin as "Not Available" as well

You have installed newest chipset drivers for your laptop?
Anyway you could try to mod the official AMD/ATi drivers, not the newest ones since they don't have any improvements for your card. I would say that the CAT 7.12 would be goos set to start. You can find them in here : link

I am a bit apprehensive about using the original drivers with the mod tools since I had those a while back. Gave me a lot of trouble, as the CCC would keep on resetting and I wasn't able to manage any of the options.
As for newest chipset drivers for my laptop....Acer really hasn't released anything new. Though I recently formatted and installed everything but the video drivers that the Acer driver site had for my laptop.

Do you have any clue why the AGP Acceleration is not available? I thought I read that Mobility Radeon 9700 has up to 8x AGP support.

BTW, the problem currently with Direct3D is:
To test DirectDraw functionality, click the "Test DirectDraw" button above.
Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer.

I am wondering why Direct3d for Omega doesn't seem to be available while it was for modded Omega.

Anyway, thanks for your time and help thus far.

What's the model of your laptop? I can look if the chipset maker has newer drivers for you....
I think it's the older drivers from Asus that could be the culprit in this case...

Sorry I had typo's in there :P

It seems that I'm unable to find the specs of that laptop, I went to the acers site and it wasn't helpful. The AGP status not being available sounds like the AGP driver that is needed isn't installed.

Hey,

I'm toying with the idea of installing part of the original Acer VGA drivers on top of the Omega install. Specifically, the GART and SMBus drivers that are a part of the vga installer, but not the rest of it. The following is the link to the VGA driver zip file as the Acer website is being...stupid...

2shared - download AS1660vga.zip

So, stupid? Worth trying?

Let me know what your thoughts are.

Thanks

Hmm... I don't recomend you to do that. But you could try to identify what chipset you have on that laptop. I think the easiest way is to get cpu-z and run it and see the motherboard tab there and see what it says about the chipset in use...

The following is the output from CPU-Z. I've bolded and coloured the chipset. Interestingly, the Graphics section on the Mainboard tab is greyed out and has no info.

What about installing the old Acer drivers (which have the GART and SMBus) and then 'updating drivers' to the Omega? Is there still chance for conflict or will it just overwrite whats there and make use of what's not.

Will try and let you know by tonight. Should I uninstall Omega drivers, as these seem to be a full set of drivers?
I can go to the following link to get the separated files:
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_ca...ntegratedip-xp

1. GART
2. Display Drivers
3. Catalyst Control Centre
4. South Bridge Driver
5. RAID Utility

Thinking of getting the ones highlighted

Thanks

Yeah I recommend you to uninstall the old drivers first
That's a full pack and it won't install all of those if they aren't needed. What you would need is the drivers from 1 to 4

Just some clarification before I go ahead with this. Should I use the mobility modder on the display drivers included in this pack?
I am hesitating because I'd heard Omega drivers were supposed to be better for gaming (my end purpose). The site allows me to download GART and Southbridge drivers on its own so I was wondering about the possibilities of going with Omega+ATI GART+ATI Southbridge.

Sounds stupid....probably, and I have no idea about these things, so thought to ask for an expert opinion.

That's about it. Gotta rush out now, will install as soon as I get back.

Thanks a lot for all your help!

During install,
"Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit."

It really doesn't want to work. Suggestions? For now, I am going to go back to Omega as I hate this whole 800x600 resolution on a 16:10 laptop.

Perhaps going back to an older version? Though I find it strange that it doesn't detect anything right now. Perhaps need mobility modder for this type of situation?
