Final resort, mobility x1600 drivers issues

Okay so here's the deal, i'm really posting this thread as my final solution, cause i've literally spent three days puzzling over what's my problem and whats the solution...

My notebook is Toshiba A100-192, im using xp32, my graphic card is ati mobility radeon x1600, many times so far have i tried downloading and modding the official ati drivers, none of which resulted with success so i was rapidly comming back to the latest version of omega drivers, which is by now, severely outdated.

The problem i have had with mobility modder is well, pretty simple.
step1: read all the instructions and download everything i need
step2: preinstall all the required windows updates
step3: download and extract the drivers (tried 8.3, 8.5, 8.6 and most recently 8.7, every attempt resulting the same)
step4: modify them
step5: install them

Everything runs smoothly. Up until the system reboot after which the drivers dont seem to be installed, the ccc is nowhere to be found, and dxdiag shows a rather peculiar diagnosis on the drivers...

------------------------------------------------------
Driver Name: ati2dvag.dll
Driver Version: 6.14.0010.6833 (English)
DDI Version: 9 (or higher)
Driver Attributes: Final Retail
Driver Date/Size: 7/4/2008 05:23:45, 309248 bytes
------------------------------------------------------

Now, the version 6.14 is really outdated, and if im not mistaken its been the current driver when i bought my notebook, but the driver date "7.4.2008" suggests its somewhat new. Now i'm not really an expert here so i might have interpreted things wrong.

If anyone can shed any light on my issue, i would be forever grateful...

Yours sincerely, Simon

System Specs

Hi,

1 thing i see happens a lot is that people confuse the file version with the driver oldness. the 6.14 means more the windows version. So you should only looks at the 0010.6833 and most times only the last number changes. So the driver is installed and is newer.
