Cannot install ati driver on Vista 32

On mistake I deinstalled the grafic driver for the Radeon mobility X2300. Now I use the standard driver from microsoft.
I downloaded the ATI driver from this side and tried to mod it as described here. http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modtool.php
I guess I've done everything right, but when I execute the setup. I get the following mistake:
ERROR! Can't initialize plug-ins directory. Please try again later.

What can I do to run my ATI driver?

I also downloaded the driver from ASUS, I could install the catalyst, but and the report the installation for the ati driver failed.
I tried to install the driver with and without modding the files.
