is mobility modder a must for all laptops?

hello everyone, first of all.

secondly, as i stumbled upon this mobility modder thingy, i'm a bit confused.

i have an asus notebook with a ati radeon mobility hd 3470. right... i've always used the vista 32 drivers found here and as i couldn't find different desktop/laptop drivers i assumed they were the only ones for any 32bit vista machine.

what i'm asking is whether i need to use the mobility modder thing to get the most out of my card (it does seem that it runs a bit worse than it should) or am i best to stick with the drivers i've been always using?

thanks

It is not a "must" no. It is an optional extra we offer free to the public to allow them to modify drivers which are perhaps a few releases ahead of the laptop maker. For example (and I haven't looked at asus so im not sure what their situation is):

Dell has an ATI driver for your machine 4 months old.
ATI release a new driver.

Your machine therefore has no support for the newest bug fixes and driver enhancements in this 4 month old driver (some new games have massively better support with new drivers).

Download the new ATI desktop driver, use our mobility modder to alter it so it will install on your machine.

End result? you have updated to brand new ATI drivers.

thanks, but this does not clear the issue. i check the ati site for new catalyst driver release quite often and each time i find an update i install it. last time i updated the driver was a few days ago and the install went smooth, no problems what-so-ever, just as it did every single time.

so am i going to get better performance from my graphics card using mobility modder than i would normally?

hmm, i just remember my graphic's card full product name is AMD ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 so if it's already MOBILITY ii guess it means i have no need for the modtool, eh?
