Hey everyone! I'm new to the DH Forums and am sure that I will enjoy my time spent on here!
Now down to business. I am having some issues with getting updated drivers for my Mobility HD 3650. Naturally, I started out by uninstalling all drivers and then using DriverCleaner.net to clean up what was left. I then downloaded the newest desktop drivers from ATI and modded them, following the instructions exactly, with the DH ATI Mobility Modder. The process was a success. But, when I went to install the newly modded drivers, the ATI Catalyst Install Manager did not have the graphics driver or CCC in the install list. Now, the last time I used this method to get drivers was on my old laptop with Windows XP and ATI Catalyst Install Manager didn't exist and the process worked flawlessly. I am wondering if the modder is having a conflict with Vista x64 or with the ATI Catalyst Install Manager (or even the combination). I searched the forums and didn't find any thread containing a solution or workaround, so I am asking you for any assistance that you can give me. All help is greatly appreciated and I look forward to not having to scroll so much (res is stuck at 800x600) .

Alright. I found the problem. DriverCleaner told me to delete the drivers windows tried to install, but the instructions were old and I ended up deleting the detection of the devices as well as the driver. This caused the drivers to not show up on the install manager because as far as it knew, there were no GPUs on the system.
Now that that is out of the way, there is another issue that I noticed. Right now graphics drivers as well as Catalyst drivers are in version 8.9, but after I ran the modder and installed the drivers, my display drivers are only 8.53 (full 8.53-080820a-068906C-ATI). This is what my drivers were whenever I decided to see if ATI would actually support Mobility and ran their install manager before using the modder. What this says to me is that the device detection that the Catalyst Install Manager runs ,before it gives you install options, keeps you from getting the latest drivers and thwarts the modder. Does anyone know of a workaround to bypass the install manager, or can a modder dev at least explain what is going on here and if we will see a fix anytime soon? Thanks for your continued support. |

I'm sorry, this is a triple post and I feel like a retard for doing it, but I found the solution
. ATI had the display driver link as 'version 8.9' for the driver, but upon reading the release notes for Catalyst I found that this is not the case. 8.53 is the latest driver . Sorry for any inconveniences I may have caused and I cannot figure out how to delete this thread, but maybe this little self-help adventure I've created and documented successfully on this forum can help somebody else. Thanks for the attention you have spared me and I hope that something good can come out of this fiasco .
