Installed with Catalyst 8.9 and get an error every time I boot?

Brand new here and thought I'd try out the new drivers. Have a Gateway Laptop with a HD2600 card.

Downloaded the driver only from ATI and followed the instructions. Everything seemed to install fine but now every time I reboot I get a pop up stating:
The Catalyst Control Center is not supported by the driver version of your enabled graphics adapter. Please update your ATI graphics driver, or enable your ATI adapter using the Displays Manager.

I checked Device Manager and it shows the HD2600. Checked the driver tab and it says 8.530.0.0 - 8/20/08 which has changed since before I installed the new drivers.

Did something go wrong or is this to be expected? Should I have downloaded the full program and not the driver only? I sure hope I don't have to get it every time.

hi i think each version of the driver has also a specific version of the control center that is compatible with it. in other words if you want to have the control center then yes you have to download it each time you update the driver. if you don't need the control center, then you can use the stand-alone driver.

Are the driver and ccc from the same package or different packages?
