ATI Mobility Modder causes screen to flicker

Relevant system specs: Dell Inspiron E1505 with a ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 card and Windows Vista x86. Tried using the Mobility Modder and the install worked fine, except that as long as the new drivers were installed, the screen would flicker every couple seconds. That is to say, for a fraction of a second it would go slightly darker than it should be and then snap back to the normal brightness, only to repeat this process again and again in an irregular pattern.

This has happened on at least three versions of the Catalyst drivers I have tried over the past year or so. But I'm getting enough driver issues with the Dell drivers that are a year old that I'd really like to get this resolved.

Sorry if this has been covered somewhere already, but I tried looking it up and didn't find anything. Thanks in advance for the help.

Okay, I still haven't gotten this resolved, but I've discovered a couple things since my last post and I was hoping somebody might be able to be more helpful this time. I installed Windows XP recently and the issue is still there. Tried a whole bunch of different versions of the Catalyst drivers and the problem started with version 8.6. Versions 8.5 and before still work perfectly, but 8.6 and onward have this flicker issue.

What could be causing this?
