If you have Radeon Mobility HD 3650 and a HDMI Port, read this:

I have a Sony VAIO VGN-FW290....I noticed under my audio section of the device manager in vista 64 that there's an ATI HDMI audio driver. If your modded driver install is failing, remove this as well as the display driver before attempting to install the moded driver pack and it should work fine. I had problems before removing this audio driver (it would install the package but not recognize the vid driver,) but after, it installed just fine. I figured i'd share my situation and hopefully help you all out a bit.

Cheers all,

~Pat

Pat,

Thanks for the tip! I run engineering models and business applications on a Sony FW298Y running Vista 64bit, 8 gb ram and ATI Radeon 3650 w/512mg....

The vid driver is extremely disappointing. In it's present rev, it only permits 3 different resolutions, 1920 x 1080, optimized for BlueRay, then it drops ALL the way down to 1024x768 and 800x600, both a bit ridiculous for any reasonable use of the 16" screen real estate.

So, unless all you do is watch BlueRay movies, the screen res options are not very useful. Trying to use MS Word, or Excel, etc., is very tedious with 4 point type, and manually zooming every screen isn't a practical option.

I have noted Catalyst 8.12, could that resolve my problem or cause more issues as it's not a "Sony" spec driver....?

Please help if you can, I would sure appreciate it.

Below are the driver details from the ATI Catalyst Control:

Driver Packaging Version 8.513.1-080717a1-067445C-Sony

Well mine isn't a bluray model, but i also have a sony FW with HDMI out. I cant remember what the available resolutions were with the pre-installed driver, but now i have catalyst 8.12 and my resolutions are as follows:

1600x900
1440x900
1360x768
1280x900
1280x800
1280x768
1280x720 (720p)
1152x864
and theres a bunch more...

It also might be because yours is the FullHD model with the 1080p screen(mines is xbrite-ECO). But it's pretty stupid if sony wouldn't allow resolution change. Anyhow, I'd definitely reccomend you update to 8.12 as it boosts video performance and might solve your resolution problem.

Good luck,
