AVIVO glitch on modded Cat >=8.5
Hey there. First off the Mobility Modder is AWESOME. Being freed from the OEM drivers is indescribable.
On the other hand, what I can try to describe is a strange bug in modded versions of the newer Catalyst driver sets. It's the video overlay feature of the drivers -- under "AVIVO Video" or "Video" section of CCC, all the options are either grayed out and/or changing them has no effect. Also Theater Mode stops working entirely. I've settled on Cat 8.4, since that is the latest Cat version on which this feature works 100%. Every version since (incl. 8.11) exhibits this bug. I first noticed this in my old Dell Inspiron 8600 (MR 9600 Pro 128MB), and thought it was just my outdated hardware not being able to support the newer video overlay engine, but when I bought an Asus F8Va-B1 (MR HD 3650 1GB) I noticed the same behavior. With the same driver sets. Should I post any more infos? Both laptops are working...... thx for the awesomeness so far and keep it up! |

Re: AVIVO glitch on modded Cat >=8.5
I just tried modding the brand-new Cat 8.12 pack -- same thing happens.
Judging from the lack of replies it seems my issue is quite unique... can anyone else check their own laptops? This is all happening under WinXP SP3 btw, I have no issues under Vista HP 32-bit SP1. |

Hi,
your the first person that reports it, but that doesn't mean you are the only 1 having this. I can compare that old driver with the new and see what could cause it. Hope someone that maybe has it and fixed it could respond.

I have noticed similar issues after upgrading to Cat 8.12. No settings in the Video section of CCC will save. This prevents enabling WMV acceleration. WMV HD content is now using twice the processor time it was previously.

Re: AVIVO glitch on modded Cat >=8.5
does changing the setting change the preview screen? Because when i change it to "bright" the preview pic becomes a lot brighter and the other options affect the preview screen as well. BUT, when i click "apply" my desktop doesn't change at all. Maybe you have to restart or something.
Driver packaging version: 8.53 Catalyst Version: 8.9 I'll try restarting and i'm also gonna update to the 8.12 versions and i'll post back if anything changes. |

Re: AVIVO glitch on modded Cat >=8.5
The video preview pane is black and no preview shows. I have restarted the pc (quite a few times). ATI's release notes for 8.12 say that there is a known issue where "the deinterlacing option under AVIVO video is not available after returning from VPU recovery". I am wondering if this means from the VPU recovery tab of CCC. It would seem that this would not remain the case after a system restart though.

I appear to be having this exact same issue, is there any resolution yet? Thanks - Boffinboy

Re: AVIVO glitch on modded Cat >=8.5
I have had to do the same, at least they are a slightly newer version than the drivers laptop manufacturer provides :/

Re: AVIVO glitch on modded Cat >=8.5
update: I've been fiddling around with the old Inspiron, and I've found that the official ATI Catalyst Mobility (tested with 8.12, 9.1, and 9.2 Mobility and MM'd desktop sets) works perfectly.
So I think I can conclude MM removes something from the desktop driver pack, and it's breaking video acceleration for us WinXPers. If you're affected by this issue, and have a card supported by the official Catalyst Mobility driver set (9600, 9700, X300, X600, X600 SE, X700, X1300, X1400, X1600, FireGL V5200), download the Catalyst Mobile package from here and give it a whirl: ComputerBase - ATi Mobile Catalyst Download YMMV, of course.... Which leaves the rest of us essentially stuck at MM'd 8.4 ![]() ![]() Anyone from DH want to comment? |

Re: AVIVO glitch on modded Cat >=8.5
Hi there!
I got the same problem with my Asus M70Sa (ATI HD3650) - on Windows XP SP3, all Avivo previews in the CCC are always black (tested both with 8.12 and 9.2 that had been processed by Mobility Modder to work with the mobility HD3650 inside the notebook) - and the hardware acceleration obviously isn't working (stuttering playback of movies and high CPU load). BUT: On Vista X64, both mobility modded 8.12 and 9.2 are working perfectly - Avivo previews in CCC can be watched, and hardware acceleration works. Anyone got any clue? I hope this issue will be analyzed further and fixed, because it looks like there are more people having this problem than assumed recently. To me it looks as if one of the following two might be the source of the problem: 1. There is some difference between the notebook mobility versions of some ATI HD graphics boards and those for the PCIe slots, and the drivers from ATI.com don't support hardware acceleration for the notebook versions because of this difference (incompatibility) on Windows XP (SP3 at least) 2. Some of the changes Mobility Modder does to the Windows XP ATI driver setup files cause hardware acceleration not to work I consider 1) quite unlikely, because the modded Vista drivers work with hardware acceleration (thus no compatibility issue really). So as I find 2) more likely, maybe someone can patch Mobility Modder to solve this problem? Thanks a lot in advance!

Re: AVIVO glitch on modded Cat >=8.5
Update 2: did another De-Vista job over the weekend -- this time on a Dell Inspiron 1501 (yes an awful lot of Dells cross my desk) w/ Radeon Xpress 1150 integrated graphics, and to my surprise (and annoyance) the MM'd 9.2 works perfectly!
I did use the 1.1.2.0 beta posted here: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/driverhe...9-2-later.html , so maybe this issue was fixed quietly ninja-style? I shall test on my two laptops and report back... Otherwise, perhaps MM does something with the integrated graphics vs discrete graphics components of AVIVO that we don't know about? Again I wish the authors of the tool would chime in... Update 2.1: just tried MM 1.1.2.0 modded 9.2 on the Asus, no go, same issue. Last edited by phoenix00; Mar 2, 2009 at 06:19 PM. Reason: added Update 2.1 |

AW: AVIVO glitch on modded Cat >=8.5
Hi!
My former account was KnowbodyDO, but as I had e-mail issues (not being delivered) with that one, I got this account... Just wanted to say that I also tried the mobility modded Catalyst 9.2 Mobility drivers (not the drivers for the desktop PCs but those which ATI gives out for a few mobility GPUs like X200 etc.) - after installation it appears to be identical to the mobility modded desktop version of Catalyst 9.2, i.e. still black previews, Avivo and hardware acceleration not running. |

AW: AVIVO glitch on modded Cat >=8.5
Hi!
The official Catalyst Mobility drivers only work for very few mobility cards as you can read in the release information (plus there would be no need for the Mobility Modder at all if the official Catalyst Mobility drivers could be used for all mobility cards). |
