Stangeness with Catalyst 8.11

Hello.
Has anybody come across the following and knows of a fix?
I'm not sure if it happens with 8.11 only or if it goes back a few releases. I just came across it now for the first time.

I've installed 8.11 in my laptop (Media Center 2005 SP3) with no problems so far.
To install some application, I had to logoff and logon as 'Administrator'.

When I logged off from 'admin' and logged back again with my standard user ID (also in the Administrators group), the screen was set at 1024x768x32 with no option to increase it.

First time I saw it, I reinstalled the 8.11 driver and rebooted to the normal 1920x1200x32.

When it happened again, I tried and found out that a driver reinstall wasn't required but it stil needed a restart before it was back to normal.

Any idea what causes the driver to lose its settings because of a logoff/logon?
