Mobility Modder errors in XP on iMac 20" - 8.11 works but 8.12 doesn't

My iMac 20" has a mobile ATI HD 2400 XT graphics card. I just downloaded the latest (8.12) desktop Catalyst drivers but couldn't get them working. Has anyone else tried and succeeded?

For the record, when I installed the 8.11 drivers it wasn't straightforward but I did get it working in the end. I wish I'd recorded the steps to share with you now. From memory, I went through the MM steps as usual, then rebooted to find the new drivers didn't work, so I either rolled back or 'upgraded' to the old drivers, only to reboot and find the CCC and latest drivers were installed and working fine.

Can I suggest a sticky on modding drivers to use in Windows on Apple machines?

As there are a limited range of chips and steps, it would be helpful to have all of the tips in one place and between us we could work out a standard, best way of doing things.

Edit: changed dates to driver versions for clarity

I had another go and got the new drives working fine.

I uninstalled the old ones first through "Add / remove programs", then U ran Guru3D's driver sweeper. Then I rebooted into safe mode and ran it again, but it didn't find anything left to remove.

Restarted normally, run the modified 8.12 setup, rebooted and bingo, it all works fine.

Thank you Driver Heaven team! :-)
