Did mobility modifier actually do anything?

Hello everyone first post and quite a newbie (I'll try and explain as clearly as possible)

After much hesitation i decided to use the mobility modifier on my x1700 pro laptop, as ATI dont actually support this with any drivers and ASUS (my manufacturer) hasent released any drivers for almost 3 years now i decided to use the tool, followed all the instruction and installed the 8.12 drivers and......

!st: on the instructions page there is a screen shot of it installing

I did not get this it just extracted and installed without any of the fancy red installer...just installed and restarted.....

2nd: I'm new at this but it seems to me that the mobility modifier after modifying the ATI files didnt install any new driver files, it just installed a new CCC (new interface and all)

Under catalyst version mine says 8.12 (ok fine)
Under 2D driver version, Direct3D, and OpenGL version it still says 6.14.......

so am i right? it just installed a new CCC without any new drivers??

PS if i want to switch back to my old driver/settings how can i do it? any special steps that need to be taken?

Could anyone help at all? any ideas would be appreciated

So just to say again it seems that only CCC updates but not the actual graphics drivers....

The numberso you see are file version numbers and they have nothing to do with the catalyst version. Only the last 4 numbers are changing in the driver updates so don't look at 6.14 because that will not change. If CCC says it is catalyst 8.12 then it is good.
