Problem with Radeon Mobility 9000/9100 IGP + Windows 7 + Catalyst 8.12 driver package
I may be reaching for the stars but I was hoping the Mobility Modifier would help my issue.
I'm trying to install graphics drivers for my Mobility 9000/9100 IGP after I installed Windows 7 Beta. I ran the modifier and it modified the drivers. When I run the installer it now sees the driver as an option to install. However, when I try to install the install fails with the below errors... does anyone have an idea if this is fixable? Unfortunately that doesn't work. The 6.11 version is not Vista compatible (only XP/2000) so it won't even attempt to install, even after DH Modification.
I went back to the earliest vista compatible version of the Catalyst drivers and they didn't work either. I guess I'm screwed. I really want Windows 7 on my laptop .

your GPU is no longer supported by drivers, sorry man....
its not going to be easy at all to get any drivers on your system...

neither vista OR win 7 will be able to use that GPU
your only solution right now is to manually install the ATI 9000 series driver

Re: Problem with Radeon Mobility 9000/9100 IGP + Windows 7 + Catalyst 8.12 driver pac
if your display adapter is showing up as standard vga and want to at least have higher resolution or widescreen resolution you must manually select the ati radeon 9000 series driver from a list of hardware. Essentially you go into the device manager, select the display adapter, right click on it, update driver, manually install (browse computer), then select "let me pick from a list of devices" or similare. You will likely have to uncheck "show capatible hardware" to bring up a full list. From there, pick ati and then scroll until you find ATI RADEON 9000 series This was for win vista..... from what i can see.. this option is not available in windows 7 at all. you may have to see if you can get someone to scrounge up the vista driver and somehow transfer it to win7.

Re: Problem with Radeon Mobility 9000/9100 IGP + Windows 7 + Catalyst 8.12 driver pac
Yeah I've already tried that as that was the first bit of information I found in my research before posting to this thread. Windows 7 does not have that driver listed.
Here's the interesting thing though. (not sure I posted above or onto another thread as I have a couple in diff places), but the Windows Update catalog indeed has two WDDM drivers for Windows 7 client for the ATI Mobility Radeon 9000. The problem is when I attempt to install it using the update driver -> have disk method, I get an error citing there is no updated driver available, or driver not suited for my device. After inspection I show that driver is meant for hardware that has the hardware IDs of: pci\ven_1002&dev_4c66 or pci\ven_1002&dev_4c6e It turns out my hardware ID is: pci\ven_1002&dev_5831. The other WDDM drivers (say for XP) mention device ID 4c66 as well. I think mine being an IGP (integrated) model makes it just different enough to not offer support thus putting the onus on the manufacturer of my MB (Toshiba) who doesn't make anything past XP. I think ultimately I'm out of luck .

Re: Problem with Radeon Mobility 9000/9100 IGP + Windows 7 + Catalyst 8.12 driver pac
I just installed on a spare drive for my Dell 600m today. I was able to install the Radeon Mobility 9000 driver through Windows Update, but it has some kind of problem. With that driver installed, the machine freezes and requires a hard reset if I try to run Windows Experience Index or play video. Both of those work fine with the Generic VGA driver, although the video is choppy and the machine only rates a 1.0 on the index, of course.
My 600m has the 9000 chip and 64MB of video memory, 2GHz Pentium M, 2GB RAM. No problems other than this so far. I sure would like to be able to run Windows 7 on this, because I like what I see so far. |

i'm really sorry but likely the problem is related to either heat or something else with the windows update supplied driver.
the 9000 was never intended for windows vista and definitely not win7

Re: Problem with Radeon Mobility 9000/9100 IGP + Windows 7 + Catalyst 8.12 driver pac
Hi,
I installed Win7 on a clean partition, yesterday. The driver installed by default was System VGA off course. After that I installed drivers from factory CD sold with the PC (or MB). During setup the system warned me once or twice, that the driver was not intended for the OS. After the fail the OS asked me if I wanted to installed the driver with "suggested settings" or so. I clicked that and that's it! In fact this is very old XDDM driver, there's no Aero and it freezes during WEI procedure (usually Media Coding section) but I can play video and there is Direct3D acceleration enabled (you should remember this is only DX 8.1 chipset). The important thing is off course the proper installation of your AGP GART instead of installed defaultly PCI-to-PCI bridge. To sum this up: I must say that the installation process of Windows 7 on my five-years-old Pundit-R with IGP9100 was much more easy than on Vista. I wish this help you. |

Re: Problem with Radeon Mobility 9000/9100 IGP + Windows 7 + Catalyst 8.12 driver pac
FWIW, I have found an older driver that works great with the Win7 RC on my Dell 600m. Details here:
ATI 9250 PCI video card problem - Windows 7 Forums I grabbed the 6.14 version that is mentioned, and it works beautifully with my 64MB Mobility Radeon 9000! No Aero, of course, but everything I've tried works great. The sample video is perfectly smooth, and it bumped up my Windows Experience Index for Graphics from 1.0 to 1.9. |

I'm sorry for kicking this old thread but i recently had the same problem, and finally found this solution, thnx guys!
I found the download site a bit 'tricky' (and I see i'm not the only one) but was able to download the file eventually so I made a few 'mirrors' of this file: 2Shared: http://www.2shared.com/file/8002185/...Windows_7.html Megaupload: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7L6IS51M Easy-Share: http://www.easy-share.com/1907880178..._Windows_7.rar Megafileupload: http://www.megafileupload.com/en/fil...ows-7-rar.html (just in case one gets deleted)

Re: Problem with Radeon Mobility 9000/9100 IGP + Windows 7 + Catalyst 8.12 driver pac
Hey guys, thanks for the links to the drivers. Question, when running this video card (ATI Mobility 9000) in XP, 1200x800 was an option (which I used). I no longer have this option in Win7 with the driver downloaded from this thread. It seems to have everything else though (certainly more than when just running the VGA driver). Any ideas on how to get 1200x800? Can any of the files be modified to allow this to be selected?
Thanks! |

Re: Problem with Radeon Mobility 9000/9100 IGP + Windows 7 + Catalyst 8.12 driver pac
I just found this site and wanted to drop my $.02.
I had two problems running Win7 with a Dell D600 with an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000. The first was slow/stuttering video playback with both iTunes and Windows Media Player. The second was there was no option Sleep option (only Hibernate). While I expected the first to be a video driver problem, I was surprised to find that the second was also. As everyone here may know Win7 defaults to its standard VGA driver for the ATI Mobility Radeon 9000. Also, ATI STINKS when it comes to legacy support (I'm going to be going with Nvidia in this regard from now on... if possible). They do not even offer ANY drivers (regardless of Windows version) on their web site anymore. After reading glen4cindy's message, I was able to find that version of the ATI Vista/XP driver package (6-2_xp-vista_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_30152.zip) at: 6 2 xp vista dd ccc wdm enu 30152 - Download from mediafire.com - Filestube.com This driver appears to be the latest available driver for the ATI Mobility Radeon 9000. I installed it and was rewarded with much better video performance. Including slightly longer battery life (gotta love how the GPU's are relatively more energy efficient!). My Business Graphics Performance in Win7 improved from 1.0 to 1.9 (still no Aero), but the 3D still is 1.0. Nice bonus. My WMP video playback was immediately and drastically improved. Very smooth full screen with any source I've tried. However, iTunes/Quicktime is still slow as all getout. Still stutters unless about 1/8 to 1/4 screen at best. I wish iTunes/Quicktime were more efficient on Windows! However, for me the biggest benefit is that I now have a sleep option instead of being forced to use hibernate. Hibernate was causing intermittent problems with my mini-pci wireless card not waking back up after hibernating, requiring a reboot to get it to work again. A real pain. However, now that I have a sleep option, the wireless card works perfectly now. A true win-win-win-win. I have had ZERO problems so far with this driver and would recommend it to anyone. One caveat. Set a system restore point before trying to do the install! Your milage may vary! Scott PS. I am running my D600 at 1400x1050... |

Re: Problem with Radeon Mobility 9000/9100 IGP + Windows 7 + Catalyst 8.12 driver pac
Hey Everyone,
After reading all the posts, I tried installing the driver for Windows 7, but had no luck. I tried downloading multiple drivers (those on the posts from GlueFactoryBJJ, hellbringer82, and glen4cindy), and following the various instructions from those posts, but nothing worked. Windows kept saying that the best driver software was already installed (the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter). If anyone could post detailed, step-by-step instructions, I'd really appreciate it! Improved video quality and the higher resolution would be worth it, and I've already spent countless hours trying to get this to work. Thanks! -Manish |

Re: Problem with Radeon Mobility 9000/9100 IGP + Windows 7 + Catalyst 8.12 driver pac
some time has passed now.
I have a Dell 600m, 1,8Ghz, 2Gb, 64Gb SSD, 1024x768 with windows 7 Ultimate. First I installed the driver from this site. But Windows came with a new driver through the Windows Update by itself. It all works super. I can't believe how fast such an old laptop still works. One minor disadvantage. I can't use 'hibernation'(=dumping ram to disk=really off) only Sleep mode(green led keeps blinking=RAM is active). BluefactoryBJJ mentioned that he had hibernation and not sleeping!? I had the problem with not waking up my wifi card twice in the last month when waking up from sleeping mode. The advantage of sleeping mode is that it starts faster than my Ipad. When in sleeping mode I discovered that after 3 days of not using the battery was still at about 83%! But as an option I really would like the hibernation mode when I know I'm not going to use the laptop for some days. Cold boot is about 30seconds, though! So in the end I really should'nt be complaining anyway. In the ati inf file I see under; [ati2mtag_RemoveDeviceSettings] the following HKR,, HibernationPatch Would it be possible to remove this option to make it work? thanx for all your tips! Florisz |

Re: Problem with Radeon Mobility 9000/9100 IGP + Windows 7 + Catalyst 8.12 driver pac
Hi all,
I think I have resolved the issue with regards to this post, it is a little long winded though! But it worked on my Toshiba Satellite A30-514, with same issue Window 7 driver. Ok re-install XP (or if you are lucky enough to have XP on partition or different drive boot from XP). Download a program called Drivermax (free ware). After it has finish, run, go to export driver(s). A list of drivers installed on your system will appear, select the "ATI Mobility 9000" and save it to a new folder on a USB. Close XP and install or boot Windows 7. Install Drivermax on to Windows 7. Once complete, run. Import driver, Job done! Hope this works for all, took me 3 days to find a solution AHHH! |

Now the thing is that I replaced the hard drive when I still used XP because my laptop would freeze all the time and I thought it was the harddrive. Now with a clean window 7 installation and the new harddrive I still have the freezing. Because of your posting I tried the standard Microsoft VGA driver instead of the ATI radeon Mobility 9000 driver from the micorosoft update. Since than my system runs without any freezing for weeks now. Because my display is 1024x768 the resolution of the standard driver is fine. I missed the hybernation standby option(the one where you dump your RAM to your harddrive). You can solve this with a command line(in admin mode); POWERCFG -H ON. After that you have the option back in the menu where you shut down your system. Now the only thing I miss is the possibility to expand my display to an external monitor or beamer... Any sugestions? |

Hello Florisz
Have you tried my suggestion above your last post? I managed to install the original driver exported from XP and import it with DriverMax to Windows 7. This works perfectly for my system, having a rating score from 1.0 up to 1.9, improving video playback with no jerkiness. Hope this helps, all the best. |
