Possible fix for 9.2 and later

This is for the ATI Mobility Modder.

Download the full zip from here and then download this and extract it to the place where the modder is installed. This should fix the problem that the 9.2 and later driver infs can't be modified.

driver installation works fine, but the ccc doesn't work... it returns a failure like that: the ccc is not supported by the driver version of your enabled graphics adapter[...]

i got a x2300 (M64) Grapics on my samsung r60 plus

btw. 9.1 works..

Re: Possible fix for 9.2 and later

i dont know about each single step the mobility modder does exactly, but until 9.1 i used it and was quite satisfied with it, although every now and then there were some display errors in certain games etc. but in general, the performance of my mobility hd2600 (256mb) was very good.

but when intended to install 9.2, i came across a page with instructions on downgrading from vista to xp for my notebook (hp 8510p), and there was a very easy way to modify the (desktop) driver explained.

the point is to add the corresponding line (device id, found in msinfo32.exe > components > display > PNP device id) into the CX_####.inf file, and then install the driver from the device manager pointing to this .inf file - thats all. afterwards ccc etc. can be installed without midifying anything.

for my mobility hd2600 the line to add to the list under [ATI.Mfg.NTx86] is:
"ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600" = ati2mtag_RV630, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9581

i dont know if this is applicable to every mobility card or on any notebook, but until now 9.2 is working perfectly for me, and for example the cs:s stress test shows 3-4fps more than with the mmodded 9.1 driver before (which was the same with earlier mmodded drivers).

my intention is absolutely not to make people stop using dh's mobility modder, but to check whether there's a way to avoid certain issues (as far as i know mainly opengl-related) frequently experienced when using mmodded drivers, and whether it would be enough just to let the mmodder add the corresponding line to the .inf file and maybe apply certain changes to be able to install the driver using the setup file, and not through device manager, like one has to when only adding this line to the .inf file manually.

Finally got it working... for those of you using Windows 7, remove the 6.1 reference in the inf file. It should look like this

[Manufacturer]
%ATI% = ATI.Mfg, NTx86.6.0

Hope it works for the rest!

MM 1.1.2.0 works fine with 9.2 on Windows 7 64 bit & HD 3470. Just added this to CL_75976.inf after removing original HD 3450 reference to avoid incorrect hardware display ident:

"ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 3450" = ati2mtag_M72, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_95C9
"ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470" = ati2mtag_M72, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_95C4&SUBSYS_01381025
"ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 " = ati2mtag_M72, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_95C4&SUBSYS_013B1025
"ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 " = ati2mtag_M72, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_95C4&SUBSYS_011F1025
"ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 " = ati2mtag_M72, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_95C4&SUBSYS_01491025

Why are 3xxx generation cards referenced as M7x cards instead of M8x, for example, mobility radeon 3650 is M86 and not M76, and mobility radeon 3470 is M82-XT and not M72.

Re: Possible fix for 9.2 and later

Hi,

A modified the 9.3 .inf file with the old notepad way...

First, download the 9.3 catalyst, unpack them

Run mobility modder, and modify the driver

Download this file, and unzip to
\ATI\Support\9_3_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Pa ckages\Drivers\Display\LH_INF, and overwrite the old ones.

Then install the driver. It worked for me (Vista 32 bit SP2 RC, Mobility X1600).

At the end of install, installer say's there are some warnings, but the log is empty, and the driver works.

Re: Possible fix for 9.2 and later

It still doesn't work as it should because the installation doesn't show new driver to install, just ccc and runtimes. And there is no display flickering as it should when installing new display drivers. And driver version in devmgmt is still from January. So, no new drivers for me (Win7, HD 2600 mobility). I tried to modify inf files by myself but no luck.

Hmm, the link to the Beta exe is broken... And I haven't had any success with the modification suggested in necrophyte's link either

I'm using a Mobility Radeon X1400 on Windows 7 b7000 x32.

Re: Possible fix for 9.2 and later

9.3 drivers only, modded with MM 1.1.2.0. installed fine on Vista 32 bit, although I did get error message at end of installation as mentioned above by addam.

On Windows 7 64 bit using same method it installed without error but left me with generic HD 3400 series device description (I have HD 3470) & much older driver version. After uninstalling all ATI drivers managed to re-install 9.2 drivers only successfully.

Anyone got a work around for this 64 bit OS problem with 9.3?

Re: Possible fix for 9.2 and later

Funny thing with the 9.2 driver for VISTA x64 works fine for me and I using Win7 x64 and I have the 3470 in my laptop. Now with 9.3 driver that is for Win7 x64 and vista x64 everybody have problems with. Iīm so disappointed with ATI I love ATI I think that have better image quality that nvidia. But in last month nvidia made a great step forward they now have drivers for notebooks. I hope the ATI do the same thing soon.

Re: Possible fix for 9.2 and later

Still doesn't work, neither with Beta 1.1.2.0 nor with manually editing the inf files. If I mod the driver, it will install CCC along with the Installation Manager and the VC++ Redist, if I don't mod it it'll only install Installation Manager and the VC++ Redist, not even the CCC. But I haven't found any way at all to get it to install the driver itself.

I've tried all suggestions here, those from this thread, those from necrophyte's Catalyst 9.3 w/ Mobility Modder? link, none works.

Windows 7 b7000 x32, Radeon X1400. If you guys have any other ideas, please let me know.

@EAKMotorsports:
You're blaming the wrong guys. As you can read on the MM.Net page, the OEMs don't allow ATI to release drivers for their cards, presumably because they don't want support incidents due to drivers not tested by them.

I'd imagine that if ATI didn't want their driver to be used with their laptop cards, they'd have no trouble disabling MM.Net from one driver version to the next. The fact that the same version of MM.Net has worked for more than half a year should be testimony enough that ATI are not working against MM.Net.

Re: Possible fix for 9.2 and later

Hey all, I finally got 9.3 (CCC and driver) to work with my ATI Mobility Radeon X1200 in Windows 7 64-bit (Build 7057) ... I didnt use the modder program. Quakelive seems to be running fine without the flickering problem in full screen mode. Also the game is MUCH smoother than it was in Windows XP SP3 32-bit.

What I did:

1) As per OzzieXP's post I removed the 6.1 references in both of the .inf files (C7_77072.inf & CH_76829.inf).
i.e. changed anything that displayed "NTamd64.6.1" to "NTamd64.6.1"

2) Manually edited the .inf (C7_77072.inf & CH_76829.inf) with my device hardware information
e.g. "ATI Radeon X1200 Series" = ati2mtag_RS690, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_791F

you can find the device ID in device manager under the device properties...

THANKS NOW I CAN PLAY QUAKELIVE AGAIN! =)

Re: Possible fix for 9.2 and later

I have installed the graphic driver through the modder. I had to erase the 3450 line in the inf file so that it recognize my graphic card 3470. But now the Avivo Video settings in the ccc don't work, I can't change colors in Avivo for the video. Does anybody have the same problem? What could be the problem? how can fix it?

I tried this and the file to be extracted into MM errored when I tried to open it. When I exited or hit continue, it just brought up MM.

edit**Think I got that to work. I'll know soon enough. Give me the time to uninstall everything and try to mod and install the driver and I'll post back on whether it worked or not.

Re: Possible fix for 9.2 and later

Hi all,

Getting ready to go round 3 with getting my driver updated. In the next hour or so, I'll be doing whatever I can to get this to work. Hopefully, I can get a work around to get 9.3 installed. If not, I'll try 9.1.

I'm working on a Gateway 6864FX with Vista Home Premium 64 bit and ATI Mobility HD2600 with 512 megs ddr3.

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Possible fix for 9.2 and later

Alright...here's an update.

I extracted the file into MM. I downloaded the individual driver, ccc from ati.com. I then uninstalled everything ATI in program files, uninstalled the old driver through device manager and then used drivercleaner to clean it up. Turned off UAC and the similar part of my security programs and rebooted.

Upon reboot, I ran the driver to extract it to the right place and then cancelled. I then fired up MM, pointed it to the driver folder and hit Modify. Then I changed memory from 256 to the needed 512. When that finished, I ran the driver setup and it finally took. I'm now running the newest driver.

Sounds like a done deal, but when I then went to install CCC, it showed as successful, but even after rebooting again, I have no CCC in program files. Also, with this it did not install the newest HDMI driver, which is needed for my use. The original HDMI driver from Gateway has a glitch with HDMI which causes the sound not to work and causes stuttering in the video.

What recommendations can you make? Should I try downloading the full CCC driver package and doing a custom install and just remove the driver itself from the list of what to install? Is that possible?

Thanks for any help.
