Overclocking Radeon HD 2600 Mobility

Hey guys, I'm new here but not to the overclocking scene, and I ran into my first problem with my new notebook today.

It's a Toshiba 8510p running 32-bit Vista, with a 256mb Radeon HD 2600 Mobility. I installed Mobility Modder, downloaded the desktop HD2600 drivers, modded them, installed them, all without issue.

I've always used ATI Tray Tools to overclock my cards, and it's always worked beautifully. I've heard that ATI Tool is generally better for doing so, so I decided to give that a whirl. Whenever I tried shifting my GPU or Memory sliders with ATI Tool, as soon as I let go of the slider, it flew back to default. I tried messing with some settings, googling for solutions, but I found nothing. Ultimately I gave up on ATI Tool and decided to go back to my tried and true ATI Tray Tools.

Whenever I shift the sliders in ATI Tray Tools, and then click Set Default Clock or apply, I get blue screened immediately...something about physical memory. Also, the tray tools are reporting both my GPU and Memory speeds as 13.5, which is clearly incorrect. I've searched high and low for any solutions to this new problem, and once again couldnt find any.

Now I'd usually after seeing all these errors I'd just assume that the card simply isn't able to overclock, but I know of people overclocking HD2600 Mobilities with great results.

Why is ATI Tool throwing my sliders back to default? Why am I getting constant blue screens whenever I try to overclock, even if it's only 2 mhz over?

Any help would be great, thanks.

Re: Overclocking Radeon HD 2600 Mobility

1. is it a toshiba or the 8510p notebook? because 8510p is a HP notebook, with a hd2600 indeed.. and toshiba's Satellites A2... & P2... models also have the mobility hd2600 inside

2. before you can do anything in terms of OC to a mobility card (if it doesnt work anyway) you have to get rid of the present (branded) vbios > flash a neutral vbios. also, the notebook's bios could prevent you from doing so.

if it's a HP notebook (eg. 8510p), you definitely have to flash a neutral vbios since HP uses their own vbios inseide their mobility cards - just take a look at the vbios version using gpu-z - you wont find that version in any other mobility hd2600..
