ATI HD 2600 XT: How to scale (strech) screen if not native resolution?
Hi!
I have a HP HDX 9200 series laptop computer with an ATI 2600 HD XT and running latest Windows 7 Beta and I first noticed that my games didn't streched to full screen when they weren't using the native resolution on the LCD screen (1680*1050), so, let's say, when running one of them in 1024*768, I get two huge black bars at the side! Now, this didn't happen with previouses OSes (Vista). Then, I noticed that the same happened if I went to change the Windows resolution to 1024*768, I would get the same bars at the sides while being in Windows! I tried downloading latest ATI W7 drivers to see if there was an option or something to stretch the image, and what I found was that option in the "Basic Menu" to stretch the display to fit the screen (Catalyst\Notebook Panel Properties\Resize the desktop to fit the display panel\) and there, all of the three options presented were the same; no matter which I chose, the screen would remain with the bars at the sides. Also, no matter which option I selected, the setting would be at "Resize but keep the original aspect ratio" when I came back to that screen (as if the option I picked wasn't "staying" there) Can you please let me know how to make the screen scale to the whole display, even if it isn't in the native resolution? Thanks in advance. ADDED: Later I found in the CCC 9.4 release notes as a known issue that "Catalyst Control Center: Image Scaling settings might not be applied". Is that talking about the option I wrote above? And if so, do you think that ATI will (soon) fix this in a new release for Windows 7? Thanks. |

Re: ATI HD 2600 XT: How to scale (strech) screen if not native resolution?
Hello! I followed the guide by Andariels (http://www.hardwareheaven.com/driverhe...-7-32-bit.html) and installed the W7-ATI-Drivers for my X1400. Now I got the same Problem like the user above. While playing Games the notebook always stays in its native resolution, with those ugly black Bars on the sides. Whenever I try to install the CCC, I do not even have the option to strech / scale the screen. I tried various Versions of the Control Center, but the problem remains the same: there is still no option to change it. Any ideas? Sorry for my bad english by the way
Thanks in advance!

Re: ATI HD 2600 XT: How to scale (strech) screen if not native resolution?
Well with the current Catalyst 9.4 I'm glad to say that IT WORKS and you are able to stretch the display to fit the screen!
The thing is... Windows 7 already have the updated drivers (through WIndows Update), but if you use them, the screen will stay with the black bars because you don't have the CCC installed, hence there's no option to "fit to screen". So... is there any way, registry, whatever to make Windows fit the screen, but without the need to install CCC? That'd be my goal, to have a clean installation as possible, and I think that I simple flag to tell the ATI driver to fit to screen would suffice but, the thing is, where is that flag? How can I do that in native Windows 7? Thanks; if anyone figures this please let me know |
