ATI Mobility Radeon 4870 x2 driver mod

Hello guys,

i´m from germany (sorry for my bad english). I hope you can help me. Last week i buy an Asus W90 laptop. This model contains 2 ATI Mobility Radeon 4870 x2 crossfire.
The driver from this cards is 8.551.2.0, date 11.09.2008. The system is Vista home premium 64 bit.

What must i do to use the new catalyst 9.5 driver on this laptop?

The mobility modder 1.2.0.0 contains this card not right.

I download the windows 7 beta driver from ati. This driver contains all mobility cards up to 4870, but not the 4870 x2. The ATI support say, this driver run as well on Vista.

I played a little bit with this .inf file.

I have copy and paste in this inf file, the device id from my card. (is the last entry)

"ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650" = ati2mtag_M9x, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9480
"ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670" = ati2mtag_M9x, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9488
"ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870" = ati2mtag_M9x8, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_945A
"ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 X2" = ati2mtag_M9x, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_945A&SUBSYS_027E1043

The "atimtag_m9x" for my card is the same from the HD 4650 and the 4670 card.

I have "compile" with "inf2cat" a new .cat file

The problem ist, the device manager identify the card but the driver are not install. I get an error that the driver not match to the card.
What can i do?!

Thanks
Bernd

not sure whether mobility crossfire is supported, but try the manual modifications:

..until MM with radeon 4xxx series support comes out.

I've tried :

Sadly, I have done the same exact things, nothing seems to work! Even though the mobility modder now officially supports this card, it still shows a 'Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" message in the device manager for the second card.

I really don't know what's going on.

Re: ATI Mobility Radeon 4870 x2 driver mod

That's not fair. The MM supports the 4870x2 but it doesn't work on the Asus W90VP even I flashed the Second card to a master bios.

Windows never shows me code43, it says the card is fine, the CCC says CrossfireX is active, but GPU-Z says something like "Crossfire not active, but available" and the 3D-Mark score also says only one card is running...

I've already got Windows 7 Final trough MSDNAA and tried the Catalyt 9.8 for notebook(?). It recognized the card correctly, both cards get a new driver, CCC gets installes. CCC says Crossfire active, but "GPU-Z says something like "Crossfire not active, but available" and the 3D-Mark score also says only one card is running..."

Please, Please, Please - HELP
