nervous questions from an x1400 user...

well, this is my first time actually posting on this forum.
hello.

unfortunately, i have to start off this relationship with a very nooby post.
for that, i am sorry.

i'd like to mod some new drivers for my Mobility Radeon X1400.
i have a dell inspiron E1705 on vista 32 bit. now, this isn't my first time messing around with mobility modder. i did it last about 5-6 months ago, and that screwed my laptop up so bad that i had to reinstall vista.
i had GREAT gaming performance in dx9-10 games, but on OpenGL apps (such as blender3D, a program i use almost every day all day for a game i'm making) nothing worked. there were a bunch of bugs, my textures were all jacked, and im just simply assuming it had something to do with OpenGL and the MM drivers, since thats what all the error logs said.

now, i looked up the ati radeon desktop driver to extract from, but they don't have a desktop version of my GPU. a friend of mine told me to use the x1300 drivers, but im not sure. i think thats what i used last time, and id like to avoid the same problem twice.
if i had the same problem arise, could i just install a new OpenGL driver to fix it or what?

please please please help me.
im desperate.
noob in need.

Re: nervous questions from an x1400 user...

i just finished setting up a dell laptop with the mobility x1400..

using the latest 9.3 catalyst drivers and then the latest mobility modder, i was able to install the drivers, but had to manually install the x1400 by pointing it to the mobility modded ati driver folder....

ever since it's been recognized as a x1400 and has worked flawlessy..

just a fyi though, make sure to hide any windows updates for the driver as windows vista on some of these laptops goes crazy if there are unsigned drivers and will sometimes automatically installed signed ones.

I ended up having to use 9.2, but I'm also running Vista x64. Otherwise the generic instructions should work no problem (with exception of possibly having to manually install the driver through the device manager).

Re: nervous questions from an x1400 user...

i used the drivers for the X1300, and got catalyst 9.3.
i might go back and do it again though, this time using the driver from the X1550 as my subject.
i assume it'd have better performance since the X1550 is a better GPU.

it never hurts to experiment.
would it be a good idea or am i just wasting my time?
