Overheating and Blue-Screen with ATI Catalyst 9.6 drivers

I installed the new ATI 9.6 drivers using the last mobiliy modder v1.2.0.0 and it seemed to be working fine at first. But then I have really serious overheating problems in my laptop and yesterday I got a blue-screen crash while trying to boot Windows. It said the problem is from the ati drivers.

Now, the blue-screen crash was once, but the overheating is always here. The fan of my laptop works non-stop. Anyone has an idea about all these? What is the cause and the solution?

Re: Overheating and Blue-Screen with ATI Catalyst 9.6 drivers

Not sure on the laptop but in general this sounds more like a hardware problem than a driver issue.

Re: Overheating and Blue-Screen with ATI Catalyst 9.6 drivers

Yeah it might have been a hardware problem, but before I installed the new modded drivers there were no such overheating problem. I don't know what to do right now, I guess I will roll back to the previous drivers and wait till the new ones came.

Any other suggestions?

That is the only one I have it might be a good idea to roll back to a non modded driver and make sure that is causing the heat issue.

It could also be dust, lack of ventilation, got a laptop cooler? Just because it's a laptop doesn't mean it's immune to getting hot. You should feel my laptop after just getting on WOW for 5 minutes. Anyhow. I seriously doubt it's the drive, if your fans are working it's most likely hardware, or ventilation related, get a laptop cooler if you don't have one.

Check power settings. I found an old Acer Travelmate 8006Lmi had a similar problem after Vista upgrade. Changing processor power management under advanced settings cured problem. As a quick check select lower power usage plan, i.e Balanced instead of Max performance & see if that changes fan operation.
