Driverheaven - Driver Cleaner 2.6

Here is new release of Driver Cleaner. There are some fixes and changes in this version.
Below you find a list of the things that are changed since 2.5:

Improved:
- nVidia cleaning file
- nForce Chipset cleaning file

Fixed:
- Text bug that no text was shown on some systems
- On some systems nothing happend when cleaning

Added:
- Now you can select the font of the program. (Tahoma, Microsoft Sans Serif)

Also some new addition:
I added a nVidia Driver Install Fix program. It can fix the problem that people can't install new drivers after uninstall of 45.** or higher.

Read the Readme.

IMPORTANT: uninstall the older version first before you install this version.

For uninstalling nVidia drivers i recommend putting the backup functions on. If something goes wrong you can restore it. Also if you get an error with installing new drivers, please send me the directories in the backup folder, so i can check and locate the problem than. Or mail me if you want to ask more how to send it, but don't use the restore before you sended it.

It is for nVidia, ATI, Creative and Turtle Beach. It will remove anything that is left by the drivers after uninstall.

Yes this release was a little fast after 2.5, but there was that text bug that some people couldn't see text in the program and by those people also the cleaning didn't work. That is why i released this i needed to fix it.

Does Driver Cleaner also delete the "standard vga driver" in Windows XP?

The reason I ask is because of an installation problem I had when installing the Catalyst 3.9 drivers after using the latest version of Driver Cleaner (2.6), which I didn't encounter when I did a system restore (via drive image) and used version 2.0 of Driver Cleaner. Also, I noted this post over at Rage3d (http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthre...eadid=33721340) where one user (nomad 128) indicates that Driver Cleaner removes both the ATI files and the standard vga driver, so I just wanted to confirm is this is true or false?

okay so i tried this program thinking it would help clean my registry, but then after doing it my nvidia driver wouldn't reinstall at all after 2 or 3 tries, and it says i have incomplete registry files, does anyone know how to fix this???

I ened up having to repair windows to get it to work..... but my pixel shaders and sprits dont work, very odd but 3d mark gets a LOW ass rate.... like 8000.... cuz it what do 3 of the tests..........

dood i think your up shit creek.... I tried to get some help and people seem to ignor the fact that this proggy doesnt work for us.

Somewhere along the line I lost my pixel shader as well..... but no help there either.... Im gonna have to dump my HD and clean install XP to fix it all.....

If you have an nvidia card and can't install drivers than use that nvfix proogram in 2.6

Also it is nvidia that screwes it up. Their uninstall is bad since 45.00

Also that guy Nomad don't know what he is alking about. Just because he have a problem he points the finger at my program. My program doesn't touch the standard vga drivers. Only when you select like ati it will clean out ati files.

Hi Spike, I had a concern. I need to uninstall my Nvidia Drivers and wanted to use your utility but I have an Nforce2 motherboard made by Nvidia's chipset. Now will uninstalling Nvidia uninstall all the motherboard drivers as well? I am afraid this may happen because I'm sure that'll ruin this WinXP install and force me to reinstall all over again.

At kekkai no it will only uninstall the video card drivers. If you run into problems after that for example you can't install new drivers than it is because the nvidia uninstall from nvidia is not good. Run the nvfix program that is included in 2.6.

@Neon it is possible that DC detects the old cleaning files and could try to use them which goes wrong than.

Perhaps because of wrong use of DC I now cant install any nvidia driver. My Windows starts only with a standard driver and if i want to add my card i get this: "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) " I used NVFIX but it didnt help :-( I dont want to reinstall is there a posibillity to fix the problam and to install a normal detonator driver again?

Can you tell me more about what system you have like mainboard and os and language of it?

Also you can boot from the xp cd and than do setup. Than the installer will load the needed files. Than you can choose like repair. Do that and the install will repair it.

You didn't use DC wrong i heard this more and try to look why it happens, for now i found out that something by the real nvidia uninstaller it goes wrong. Than it is allready bad. Than when DC is used it maybe gives a conflict with the nvidia way of uninstalling. I am still looking into this and really hope to find it. But i am allready a little further. Nvidia uses some new way of uninstalling since 45.** so i will look closer at that.

err..so it's not safe to use this driver cleaner if my driver version is 45. and above? I have presently installed version FW52.16 and hoping to downgrade to 45.23 becos this FW gives me crappy image quality rendering when I'm playing my games.

now it is safe to do, but what you need to do is read the readme and enable the backup features in driver cleaner, so when it goes wrong you can restore it.

If it may go wrong than mail me and i have a suggestion than.

I've used your program two times and both times I've been screwed. I followed the docs, and now I'm stuck not being able to reinstall my NV drivers again. I tried your nvfix, it does nothing for me. It can't install the VGA adapter.. even from the original XP CD.

I also used the backup function.. restore doesn't fix anything.

First time I could blame myself for not reading the readme, this time I followed the docs.

What kind of motherboard do you have and chipset.

Also there are a lot of people with the same problem that didn't use Driver Cleaner. The problem is that nvidia screws it up with their uninstaller.

I've never had a problem uninstalling from Add/Remove and putting another set of drivers in. I don't install every beta that comes out, usually the WHQL sets.

Chuck can you help me a little if you want. Can you uninstall the nvidia driver through add remove and than do a search for nvidia files and in the registry for things from nvidia. Than send me a list with the files oyu found and where and export the reg entries you found. Maybe nvidia needs some old reg entry. After you did this you can install the driver back so no need to run driver cleaner.

I must appologize Spike. I didn't have luck with your software the first time, but the second time was probably my fault (well, the driver (52.18) I was attempting to change to was snafu). I cannot reliably tell you if DC made the problem worse or better, it was same same result tho. Probably a bad combination of things.

How I found this out was during the clean install, can't blame DC for that one.
