Driverheaven - Driver Cleaner 2.7

Here is new release of Driver Cleaner. There are some fixes and improvements in this version.
Below you find a list of the things that are changed since 2.6:

Improved:
- Some small code changes
- ATI cleaning file

Added:
- 3Dfx cleaning file beta
- SIS Graphics cleaning file beta
- Polish language file

Read the Readme.

IMPORTANT: uninstall the older version first before you install this version.

For uninstalling nVidia drivers i recommend putting the backup functions on. If something goes wrong you can restore it. Also if you get an error with installing new drivers, please send me the directories in the backup folder, so i can check and locate the problem than. Or mail me if you want to ask more how to send it, but don't use the restore before you sended it.

It is for nVidia, ATI, Creative, Turtle Beach, SIS Graphics and 3Dfx. It will remove anything that is left by the drivers after uninstall.

You can download the new version here.

If you use Driver Cleaner either for personal or business use and wish to support development so i can continue to improve this product, please donate some money. I will second what spike said. It is a excellent program. Very useful and a nice service he provides all of us tech heads.

It's a great tool. Always worked perfectly for me. I highly recommend it. In fact, I would even recommend it over ATI's own uninstall tool.

Like the new install interface. If it was in the 2.5's or 2.6's I did not notice. Love the many options for installing Desktop, Start menu, and Quick Launch icons. Nice touch. Have not used it yet, but as soon as the 4.x's hit the street I'll give her a test drive.

Thanx. Rivanvx recommended me the installer, it is better for options and smaller in size. It took me some time to make the first installer, because you have to sort of program the things. After that someone said that the grey icon was not good visible on the grey menu so i thought of a black icon and grey and programed that in the installer.

I am glad you like the installer.

one Q about driver cleaner. if i uninstal geforce drivers(add/remove ) on nForce2 platform,what must i hit to clean what's left of the geforce drivers,and obtain nForce2 chipset drivers?

You need to select nvidia. If you look in the list you see als nForce that would be for the nforce drivers. So just select the nVidia and it is good.

Whenever I download the Driver Cleaner 2.7 ZIP-File and extract it it says that the setup.exe is corrupt. My systems fault or does anyone else got the same problem?

Are you running a D/L manager if so disable it and try redownloading.

I didn't use any D/L manager for the download. First I tried it with Mozilla Firebird, then with a GUI replacment for the IE. Both time the D/L were corrupt. Just tried it with the plain IE and it worked. Anyway thanks for helping.

btw Driver Cleaner is really a great tool. I believe without it I would have a lot of trouble trying out new drivers. I'm really thankful

Just a few questions from a newbie

- What files will be removed else then the files that are removed from add/remove programs?
- How does the programm know wich files it has to remove? Doesn't every card-driver has it's own files?
- What's with step 1? Disconnect from the internet?

Srry if all these questions are too noob to ask, but then again, I'm a newb!

Question 1: It removes left over files and registry items. A driver uninstall always leaves things behind.

Question 2: The things it removes is done by the cleaning files i made for it. There is in it what it should remove. Also the program has multiple cleaning files for different drivers.

Question 3: If you don't do that than windows will connect to their site when you reboot to look for new drivers and will than download them and install them.

If you have more questions just ask.

Hi there,

since using your driver cleaner I am getting a black screen!

I am currently using an old GeForce 2 as my Radeon 9800 Pro is having problems. The Nvidia worked fine before, then I uninstalled, used the cleaner, installed the ATI and ATI drivers (to check if it worked properly with a new fan, but no luck), uninstalled and used cleaner, installed same Nvidia drivers (53.03) again. But now whenever the resolution is switched at bootup (when there should be the blue WELCOME screen) the screen just goes black and stays black in Windows too.

Note that I have swapped the video cards without any problems several times before, and the only thing that was different now was the use of your cleaner. One thing I noticed is that after removing the Nvidia drivers in safe mode and booting back in normal mode, Windows no longer gives the usual "new video adapter found" popup and doesn't try to install any drivers, so I think your cleaner deleted something it really shouldn't. Needless to say I am not very happy with this situation, hope you can help...

I'm running WinXP Home.

Screensaver so you can still get in windows safe mode? Also try to disable that welcomes screen. Goto Control Panel Than User Accounts, than Change the way users login and uncheck Use The Welcome Screen. See if it than works ok. There are some bugs in the Welcomes Screen.

Also did you try to reinstall the mainboard drivers. I heard from a few others that when they uninstalled an nvidia driver with the nvidia uninstall in the control panel that they needed to reinstall the mobo drivers.

Well I had installed and reinstalled both the ATI and Nvidia driversl multiple times before without any problems ever. What I did was roll back to an earlier recovery point that restored the Nvidia driver before the first use of your tool, then uninstall normally and install again. Worked perfectly without any problems. Installed 56.55 since and no problems either...

Screensaver can you uninstall the nvidia drivers than reboot and make a backup of your registry from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and HKEY_CURRENT_USER export those to 3 seperate files and than zip them and mail them to spike@driverheaven.net. Than i can check what the nvidia cleaning file would remove and see if anything should not be removed.

Hello, I oringinally installed Catalyst drivers...then I switched to a Nvidia card....now my ATI drivers keep reappearing. I run Driver Cleaner2..+Cab Cleaner...then a mere 2 minutes after deleting the ATI files...they respawn!!.. It's very annoying. Help please ?

hey spike, everytime i try to run the cab cleaner on driver.cab, i get an immediate 'send error to microsoft' message and the program closes. it started happening after the program froze during a cab clean a while back. i have problems periodically with my vid card giving me device failures and setting my res very low, meaning that i have to do a restart to get back to normal.
i am wondering if this is possibly affected by the driver.cab or something else? and is it possible to reset the driver.cab using the windows xp cd?

When I try to uninstall ATi Radeon Catalyst 4.2, I get an error-message!

"ERROR: 0x80040707" "ISLAYER.DLL NOT LOADED INTO MEMORY"

Do you think that when I use your "Driver Cleaner 2.7" it would solve my problem?

If not...PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TO DO!!!
