DriverHeaven TuneXP Public Beta 2

G'day all again.

I have fixed all the issues that you mentioned in the TuneXP Beta 1 thread, and i am now ready to present you the next beta of TuneXP, which features more active tweaks and better support for some of the other tweaks.

Fixed issues
- No error if registry key IOPageLockLimit, NTFS isn't present
- Program asks user to set Windows directory at the first program execution

Added features
- IP features
- Check disk / Run WindowsUpdate / Services

Known bugs
- Visual Apperance / Use classic logon tweak does not work, even though the menu for it has been activated.

You can get the new version from my site: D-FORCE

Hope y'all enjoy it, even more than beta 1

"IO PAGE LOCK LIMIT
This tweak sets the maximum amount of bytes for IO paging. The larger memory size you've got, the larger IO Page Lock Limit you can set.
Only use the setting that represents your memory size (for example, if you have 128MB RAM, don't use the 512MB+ option)"

I've always wondered what this tweak actually affects, is there any way to explain what IO paging is? I've tried it with other tweakers, but it always seemed to slow down my rig- or maybe it was my imagination. What does it actually do?

It reserves a specific place in paging/memory for application/DLL fast IO, which the normal paging file isn't built for

The larger IO paging, the more amount of RAM windows will use for application startup. Big applications like Photoshop, 3ds max benefit from a higher size, their loading time gets cut down.

Cool, what about games? Should you set it to a specific amount for a gaming system? I have 512mb of ram, would setting the tweaker to 128 be good or should I set it to 512 if I run games once in a while?

It's basically amount experimentation.

On my system, which has 512MB PC-2100 DDR, the 512MB option works the best.

I tried the tweaks out and wow, my system is actually noticeably faster! Especially windows navigating and stuff. PhotoShop 7 opens faster too I think..

-IO page locking set to 512

-I cleared my prefetch and rebooted..

-Faster shutdown enabled (I already had this tweaked with X-setup but on;y 5 seconds, not 4 like DHtune)

-Defragged boot files

-Disabled zip folders (a new one for me but great because I use winrar)

-Ultra fast booting enabled- but I use Perfect disk6 also- so I don't know how long that will last..

-Speed up IRQ handling is enabled, doesn't seem to hurt anything.. but my machine is faster

-Nice network command (IP settings) and Services shortcuts... I will use them all the time! Especially "release all" and "show all" - very cool..

This is turning out to be a very slick, handy program- great for easy to use fast tweaks- not like Xsetup where I get lost for hours looking at all those different settings, with DHtune I can skip all that and do the tweaks I do the most w/o searching through hundreds of different tweaks..

Each has their place, but this is definitely a great thing to have and I have to say it works great.

It does work very well, normally I dont normally like these apps as they have 600 options and 500 of them are stupid or dont work correctly or even hose your operating system. dforce has done a great job on this app.

Clear prefect folder on first run did not work for me.
It did work after reloading the application.

Also I would like to see a settings button in case somebody chooses the wrong windows folder at first run.
And why don't you detect the folder automatically?
The system variable %windir% should do the trick.

Other than that great tool!

One reccommendation, could you implement a time bar to go along with the command prompt defragmentation? Right now I am using the Ultra-boot time command and I don't know when my defragmentation process will end..:/

After running the Ultra-fast boot option, it tried to defrag my C: drive instead of my F: drive where my windows install is. I guess this is something people with windows installed on a drive other than C: have to worry about.

The only thing I have noticed was that I have my pagefile on a seperate drive than my OS, when it was doing the defrag of the bootfiles it did not detect the pagefile on the second drive.

Yeah, before this tweak it took me around 45 seconds before I could run any programs; now it takes about 15! Thanks D-force!

I'd actually recommend anyone to try this, it doesn't seem like a beta at all, hardly buggy.

im impressed with the boot times after running the boot file rearrangement. seems much better than other tweak utils i have tried and this is just a beta.

Great program. I'am running Norton System Works at home and I usually defrag using "Speed disc" is it going to cause problems if defragging with speed disc instead of standard defrag in XP??

Nope, there won't be a single problem. The defragment is really only an optional thing, but on some systems, the ultra-fast boot optimization doesn't work 100% if the drive isn't defragmented...

But using a 3rd party defragmentation tool (like Diskeeper, which i use myself) won't cause a single problem

Quick question. Do the various programs run automatically or do you have to run each one individually. Thanks. Looks like a great app.

Sadly, you have to run external defragmentation programs by hand until i figure out a way to run the default defragmentation program...

The program launches the console version "defrag" which can then load in the various defraggers for drive types...
