Driverheaven - Mobility Modder V2.0

The 2 year anniversary of DH called for something special.

This version is the most complete modder you will find.
I'll hit you straight with it:

- Changed the setup files, now the Catalyst files installes the way it was meant to be
- Added support for the Mobility Radeon 9700
- you now have the option to mod the files only for your card, which speeds up the modding.
- And with the new layout (Credit goes to Craig5320!) people who where experiencing *.ocx errors, those are gone aswell.
- Possible resolution fixes for some cards. (did not have the chance to test on all cards, send me some laptops and i will )

And please I need some feedback about the resolutions. Thanks!

Mobility 9700 (Inspiron XPS, if that makes a difference). However, I don't think i've seen ANY driver display 1280x1024 in BF1942 on this notebook. I know it exists though... On my desktop w/Radeon 9800 Pro, I see 1280x1024 in the list.

If I edit the config files in BF1942, I can make 1280 work as well.

Patje,

Thanks for this great utility. I have a laptop with a Radeon 9000 chip which is only about a year old but the vendor went bust. Until I found your utility, I couldn't upgrade the driver. Now I'm a happy bunny

hey patje,

just tried to install cat 4.5 modded with your tool on my IBM T40p with Radeon FireGL 9000.

1.) modding seems to work (chose also FireGL 9000 as card in your tool)
2.) starting cat install after mod results in errors, dont remember exactly what, but i think something like hardware not found in .inf file) -> setup closes without further message
3.) installing driver via device manager -> upgrade driver works, but i got max resolution of 1280x1024 afterwards, my standart res on the T40p is 1400x1050 (did you add that resolution at all with your mods?)
4.) uninstalled everything using driver cleaner.
5.) made clean cat 4.5 dir and modded again, this time with Radeon Mobility 9000 chosen
6.) now setup from modded cat dir works .... stuff installs fine.
7.) but again no 1400x1050 res available.
8.) worked around this by unchecking "Hide modes that this monitor can't display" in display properties -> advanced -> monitor

i would love to use your tool more in the future, but there seem to be still some issues that need to be resolved. perhaps i fucked something up myself, but well i followed the instructions step by step.

thanks for any comments,

boba

hey patje,

thanks for your response, though i wanted to mention that there is still one question left....

why won't the main setup let me start the installation of the package after modding with your tool?
as mentioned, it gives me an error saying hardware not found in inf file when i chose Mobility 9000 FireGL as card....?

regards,

boba

Sad Having problems with RADEON IGP 345m

Im trying to install current catalyst drivers on my Vaio PCG-K13 laptop with a Radeon IGP 345m board in it, but after first uninstalling the old divers, running the modder and trying to install the new drivers it gives me an error saying, 'the display driver is not compatible witht eh diplay adapter installed....'

kind of disconcerting if ya know what i mean, can you help me out a bit?

try updating the driver trough the device manager and specifying your card. (it's described at www.hardwareheaven.com/patje at the bottom)

??? which card should i choose...

When i go to the device manager and choose the update driver option, it gives me a list of cards to choose from, I have a radeon IGP 345m card in my computer, which would be best? Should i run the modder again first, do i need to uninstall my current diplay drivers first?

thanx for the help, but i need a bit more explaination than the instructions provided on the modder page.....

thanx again

yes, run the modder, goto device manager select the igp 340 or 345 from the list and install it even if windows says it is not the correct driver.

hope that helped

Pissed Installed IGP 340 drivers...

I ran the modder and went through device manager to install the current catalyst drivers for the IGP 340, even though i have a 345, but when i go into the go into the game its still only draws the polygons with no textures, should i try a different card? can i fool my computer into thinking it has a desktop card without doing damage to it maybe?

thanx for your patience

nop i don't think so. Well the igp is not the best card for games i know. Maybe if you play with the settings you might get some other results.

hehe I understand, if you go to the windows control panel, choose display properties, choose settings tab, press the advanced button, then goto the 3d tab, here you can mess around with a lot of option. First start with putting the slider to optimized for speed, and the optimized for graphics. you might get better results. oh and if the 3d does not appear, you need to install the control panel (no modding needed)

take care

Hey, Patje, i have a Problem with your Tool... When i click the "start mod" button the following error message comes up:

It says (roughly translated by me):
Runtime Error
Couldn't create object with ActiveX Component

I think this could be because i use xpsp2_rc2...

that could be, try checking if you can reinstall windows scripting host or visual basic runtime library. Don't have XPsp2 yet but i'll check it when I have it. Altough other people reported the same error without SP2.

Hi there,

like boba23, I'm working on an IBM Thinkpad T40p with a ATI Radeon 9000 FireGL graphics card installed. I tried your nice tool and the Notebook came back with the same error. I'm not able to set the resolution higher than 1280x1024. BUT another problem is, that the OPEN GL Version is now reseted to version 1.1. (= no Open GL features)

Could it be, that the tool doesn't work correctly with FireGL graphic cards? I think the installation of the Catalyst 4.7 driver didn't work correctly. Does anyone else have another idea how to update my graphics card? If I download the latest Fire GL driver from the IBM website, my Open GL version is set to 1.3. but I need 1.4. (which should be no problem as the Fire GL is an special OPEN GL graphic card.)

Kind Regards,

Carsten

Carsten,

The problem is I have no FireGL card to test with, in fact I only have a mobility radeon 9000 to test with. But I will be comparing IBM's driver in comparison with the modtool and I'll try to adjust the fireGL settings in a new release and hope that it will improve it. thanks for the feedback

Hello Patje,
I installed the 4.7 catalyst driver wich installed fine, but when I run DXDIAG directdraw, direct3d and agp are
not available.
When I go back to the 4.6 catalyst driver this problem is resolved.
I don't no if this is a driver problem or the problem is with the modder.

Hello Patje,
I have tried to reinstall the agp driver but it's still not working.
I downloaded the new sis driver from the sis webside and tried that but it didn't resolve the problem.
I went back to the 4.6 driver and this works fine.

my system:
Aspire 1601
P4 2.4 Ghz
512 MB DDR
Mobility Radeon 9000
