XP Tune Defrag

I thought I would upgrade a few things and changed the following:

9600 pro to 9800 pro - great for £150

AthlonXP 1800+ to 2400+ - great for £50

and tune up the HD using XP Tune. However after after using the defrag option the hard disk speed dropped (using performance test 4.0 to measure) by the following:

Sequential read 20MB/s to 14MB/s
Sequential Write 14MB/s to 8MB/s
Overall Disk Mark 93 to 66

Very annoying

After downloading Perfect Disk and doing a three pass defrag including boot files figures are now:

Sequential read 29Mb/s
Sequential Write 19Mb/s
Overall Disk Mark 131

Any ideas why?
