TuneXP 1.5 "Start" error
Failed to get data for "Start". Emailed dforce (Or someone listed as contact? I forget.) but didn't get any helpful information and no reply on my request for more..I really am stumped, and could use some help in either rooting out goofed keys tunexp uses at "Start" or what ever may be the case here. I had some filesystem corruption and was able to fully recover except this, which is very very annoying. This box pops up, then the options in TuneXP's menus are not what I really have enabled (verified) and changes don't stick. I uninstalled it and the like, ran some registry repair utilities that found nothing (critally, or relevant) amis, and there is nothing logged to the eventlog that shouldn't be happening.

if you mean the program reports an error when you try to start it..
then Not all program have the ability to add results (reports information, warnings or errors) to the Windows event log.. Dr.Watson is the Windows default application debugger, unless you disable it. it might be some info which's relating to the error in the "drwtsn32.log". |

Yes, when I start TuneXP I get a box saying "Failed to get data for "Start". It isn't crashing or anything, and I did double check watson's log (\windows\drwatson.log) but its empty.

Here is a (long, dont word wrap if possible) regmon log of what TuneXP accessed and the results of the query against the registry. To me, all looks well. *sigh*
http://users.megapathdsl.net/~joe00100/txpregmon.LOG (attempted to paste here, but too long.) Maybe someone else can spot something amis or something.. |

Start the Dr. Watson program by typing drwtsn32 in the Run box then hit enter,
and check for the "Log File Path:", the default location is "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\drwtsn32.log" --------------- The Dr. Watson program is installed by default in Windows, and is configured to run when an application error occurs, it'll create the "drwtsn32.log" file containing the diagnostic information about the program errors, the information in the Regmon log were not what you are looking for... Ah yeah I see - Was looking at the old (16bit?) drwatson. Nothing related in there, just a few app errs that are expected from their respective applications.

What I really am looking for are reasons this TuneXP err would pop up..Dforce (no offense at all!) was no help via email on this.

Yeah I did a clean install, was the first thing I tried. Unfortunatly I am in the same boat, I can't pry what this cryptic error means exactly outta anyone and well, everything else works fine.

This is due to not having the "First Run" portion of the install , to set the "Choose your Windows Location" correctly, or not at all. Not sure why this is, but if you can get this set, it wont re-appear. Assuming your OS is installed on Drive C:, than that would be the setting. Definitly a bug here, as its happened to me a few times now. |

Ah yes, that makes a lot of sense. I actually had just copied my TuneXP folder from my old XP installation over to the new and ran it, and since the paths all remained the same I hoped it wouldn't have a problem. Strange though that if its uninstalled and reinstalled it retains this problem..I haven't bothered to nitpick the registry some more looking for TuneXP keys, I've been hoping Dforce or someone would post up or email me a list of key names (partials?) or configuration files that are used right up to that Start Error point....Regmon's log didn't show anything whacked that its reading, so..
Still stumped. Thanks for the reply though, at least I don't feel AS bad anymore.

Uninstalled, ripped every TuneXP thing related out of the registry, reinstalled, and I get the error before I select which drive windows is on. The only system problem I have is that WFP is half busted, but that wouldn't have much effect on tunexp would it? Everything works but sfc /scannow.
