Modded catalyst files for mobility users

Sorry.. couldn't read the entire thread.

What's the current solution for those with Mobility's? Can we get the 4.12's working or not?

I'm on a 9700 Mobility 128MB with a Dothan 2GHz.

I'm currently using Omegas and I just today discovered DNA's and was trying to figure out wether I should stay with the Omegas, switch to DNA's or get something like the modded 4.12B's? Advice?

1) forget the dna's
2) You can use the 4.12's on your 9700 check the first post of the thread.
3) omega's are a GOOD alternative!

What about my dell inspiron 5000e ? --- I have tried your 2k radeon drivers - and the 412b mod... but it won't install

the graphic chip is a 'mobility 128' ... but if I'm not mistaken, that should be ok with the unified radeon drivers ... but it's not working

PS, from Dell's website, the 'mobility 128' inside seems to be a pre M6 chip
"16-MB ATI Rage-Mobility P AGP" - perhaps its an M3?

anyway, I thought the drivers were unified to include the old radeons too?

I'm going to install the latest 4.12beta (modded by you) on a clean windows (which has been cleaned of any omega stuff).
do I need to install a separate file to have the control panel as well?
(I have a dell i8600 with radeon 9600 mobility 128Mb and windowsxp sp1).

Patje, I have a 3.06 GHz P4 with HT on, 1 gig of Corsair 400 MHz DDR RAM, and a Radeon 9000 Mobility with 128 MB or RAM that I bought from Alienware about a year and a half ago. Every driver set after the 2576 Omega drivers causes texture corruption in current direct 3D games (UT2K4 and HL2 more than anything else) like seen in this thread: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/windows-xp-radeon-display-drivers/61205-error-textures-ati-radeon-mobility-9000-a.html

A couple things that I have noticed is that the texture corruption totally goes away when texture compression/DXT texture formats is turned off/disabled, and is just reduced when running on higher levels of smooth vision. The problems with those solutions is mainly performance, it cuts the FPS into a third or less of what I normally get.

If I revert to the 2576 Omega drivers, HL2 and UT2K4 look fine, but then EQ2 is messed up. I am wondering if you know any solution to this problem other than just uninstall and reinstall the drivers I need to play the game I want.

Hi, I have a big problem. I have a Ati radeon 9700 64 MB. Last day i bought Half life 2 and i couldn't play. I have been reading in this forum that it's a problem about drivers. I have download Omega drivers from Catalyst 4.9, the last ones, and i can't play. Then i read the post of patje, but i couldn't solve my problem cause when i download catalyst drivers wxp-w2k-8-08-041111a-019253e but the mod that patje have put on that forum are to wxp-8-08-0411109-019199 and i can't continue the setup.

I see that M_A_D have the same problem and he solve it but i can't.

have you tried a manual install through the "add hardware" wizard. That solved the not be able to install problem with me.

Redownload it and it should now get the right path...

And if I want to install the modded 4.12's and currently have the latest Omegas installed, what should I do first? Completely uninstall the Omegas with driver cleaner and all? Before proceeding with the 4.12's that is

I have successfully installed the v4.12 beta drivers on my laptop with a ATI 9700 and all of my games work great.......but........what about the Video / DVD playback..? I have read that people had experienced similar problems, but just wondered if there is a solution.

By the way Half Life 2 is superb.......and these drivers work well (so far... ).

Any help would be appreciated.

last week when I asked about the 4.11 drivers I got this response from GregS:


I have a 9600 and the modder worked for me. I used the advice from someone on this forum so I'll quote what they said for the 4.10 but it also worked for the latest versions for me.

"Problem with the newer drivers and patjes modding tool is that ATi changed the inf-file slightly...
so, before you mod them you will need to alter the inf-file to make the modder work:
Extract the Driver Package
Go to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\wxp-w2k...\Driver\2KXP_INF
Open the file CX_18719.inf(I edited the version number for the latest driver)
in this file you need to change this:
Code:
[Manufacturer]
%ATI% = ATI.Mfg, NTx86
[ATI.Mfg.NTx86]
to this:
Code:
[Manufacturer]
%ATI% = ATI.Mfg
[ATI.Mfg]
then mod the driver as usual..."

After I modded the driver it asked to go ahead with the setup and I declined and exited out. I then went to ATI\Support\wxp-w2k-8-071-041026a-018719c and ran setup from there. Windows whined about it not being signed and I continued anyway. Everything works and the card is properly identified. Follow these directions and it should work. Let us know if it does.

PS: If I were you I would delete the ATI folder setup has created and then start your installation of the downloaded file over again, following the above directions.

Hi Randy, you must have installed the 4.11 that way cause I couldn't get the 4.12b to work that way. If you go to the first post on this topic, patje has some modded files to download that is suppose to work for either version. Early on and then a little later on, I downloaded the modded 4.12b he has posted, but both times it didn't work. Since my last try I went ahead and download the modded files from a site that M_A_D kindly posted and have them installed and working fine. I have since asked the question if the files on patje first post have been updated to which M_A_D replied they have been and are now suppose to work. Well I already have them working fine with the one's M_A_D suggested so I have left it as is for right now. I hope I haven't confused you

PROBLEM FIXED! A SIMPLE RESTART. Sorry, I was being hasty, but I will leave this description here for anybody else who might stumble across this issue.

patje, I just got a new problem... Remember that I got the 4.12 installed by overinstalling the 4.12 onto the existing 4.11? Well... it worked until I decided to get video out onto my TV.

Before I attempt video out, my LCD is on default display with 1680x1050 resolution. I then clone my desktop and made my TV my default display since only the primary(default) display gets the image from WMP. Problem is, my TV is not widescreen, so I ran it at 800x600. All well and dandy until AFTER the movie.

I tried to return to single display, which is only my LCD, with 1680x1050 resolution. It returned me to single LCD display alright..... but problem is, I can't use 16:10 ratio resolutions for my widescreen LCD display...(I have a 15.4" LCD with native res of 1680x1050 or a lower version of the same ratio is 1280x800) Now, the max I can set it is: 1400x1050, which is a 4:7 ratio screen... not widescreen. I have these two verticle black bars on the left and right of my screen.... just like your normal TV playing widescreen movies, except it's on the top and bottom.

I recall someone had this problem before that they can't see their widescreen native resolution, but I don't remember where. Please help.

I can always uninstal and reinstal, but.... that would be my last resort... There's GOT to be an easier fix to this...

ok, here is my problem. my laptop has a 15.4 widescreen display. its supposed to run at 1280x800. the highest these drivers will let me go is 1024x768. what can i do to get that resolution back? its a Mobility Radeon 9600 64MB

I asked that question but had no reply, but I have 1280x800. what I did was open the CX_19199 file at C:\ATI\wxp-w2k-8-08-041111a-019253e\Driver\XP_INF and at [ati2mtag_M10_SoftwareDeviceSettings] I replaced the line DALNonStandardModesBCD5 with this one HKR,, DALNonStandardModesBCD1, %REG_BINARY%,10,24,06,00,00,00,00,60,10,24,04,80,0 0,00,00,60,12,80,06,00,00,00,00,60,12,80,07,68,00, 00,00,60,12,80,08,00,00,00,00,60,08,00,04,80,00,00 ,00,60,16,80,10,50,00,00,00,60,19,20,12,00,00,00,0 0,60,09,60,06,00,00,00,00,60,08,48,04,80,00,00,00, 60,16,00,10,24,00,00,00,60
and then I installed the driver

use this file (it's newer then the other one... ati updated it and added w2k support).
from the frontpage of this thread you will need the modded412b file.

Guys can you please try to help. I downloaded the modded 411 file, but it said it could not locate the .exe file. what am I supposed to do??

I insatalled 4.11 the way GregS suggested and all was great. Then out of nowhere when I went to run Leisure Suit Larry a window pops up saying: Atlas Graphics: unsupported DDS pixel format or size encountered.

The another window pops up saying something about runtime error...

What happened? It 'did' work fine for a day or two??

AH, I got a big fat NEGATIVE on this. 1) There is no CX_19199 file at C:\ATI\wxp-w2k-8-08-041111a-019253e\Driver\XP_INF, 2) There is no DALNonStandardModesBCD5 listed in the inf files, modded or not modded, all I found was one's with the number 19253. I did however find DALNonStandardModesBCD1 listed under [ati2mtag_M10_SoftwareDeviceSettings] and copied over it with what you suggested and it doesn't work for me. On another note, the new modded 4.12 and the new 019253e exe file however did load but tabs are still missing in control panel.

so why can't I mod the 4.11 drivers with the mod tool for 4.11? The directory does exist but yet it still can't be found??

Hmm cant get the 4.12 drivers installed. Gives me that hardware error, even after using the modder

As i've said before: the modtool is not working on catalyst 4.8 and later.
@GregS: You have the older version of catalyst 4.12 that's why you don't have the CX_19199 file.
but that doens't mather, use the CX_19253.
make sure you find the correct section in the file. if the line does not exist, try adding the line.

@Randy, the dir is still there yes, but since 4.8 ati changed their inf files a bit and this confuses the modtool

@stealthy C, Tell me exactly what you did and which files you used.
