Modded catalyst files for mobility users

ATI sure knows how to keep people busy and we are gratefull for that.
So te reduce the size of questions regarding the modtool...

It is still in development yes, ya'll probably think i'm lazy but the tool is being remade
but enough on that now.

What is important is that i'm providing the modded files for both catalyst 4.11 and catalyst 4.12 so you can enjoy the fruits of it.

here is the deal:

Download CATALYST 4.11 from your favorite mirror, and install it TO THE DEFAULT LOCATION "C:\ATI\SUPPORT...." , you will see the error saying it's not finding the right hardware (silly huh) at that time you need the modded files. Download them HERE MODDED411

Double click the file, and click install, overwrite when asked for. The setup will launch after the files have been placed in place.

For CATALYST 4.12 it's the same story, different files.
There are 2 version of catalyst 4.12 out there:
One with and one without Win2k Support.

Modded files for Cat 4.12 WITHOUT Wink2k support
Download them HERE MODDED412

EDIT: NEW!!!!!!!!!!

Modded files for Cat 4.12 WITH Win2k support
Download them HERE MODDED412b
This one only works with the following file : wxp-w2k-8-08-041111a-019253e.exe
which you can obtain from our good friends: http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4701.html

Problems, hapiness, donations (in any form ), 1 addres --> patje@driverheaven.net or PM me

hmm, i spoke too soon. Even with the files from Rage3D... It still gives me problem.

The driver installed fine... but now I'm experiencing screen flickering uncontrolably after reboot...

The best solution now is to instal the 4.11. Edit the .inf file and then apply mobility modder 2.0b.

That's the best I can get right now.

4.12 is still out of hope for me.

btw, i fixed a problem with the 4.11 files, thanks to M_A_D for pointing this out.

Remember guys, that the 4.12's are for xp only so that might be the problem.
I'll have a look at the differences between them

Modded 4.12 wouldn't work for me. It didn't give me the option of overwriting files it just created new folders and files. I then had the thought to copy files into the appropriate folders and was given the option of course to overwrite the existing which I did. Setup failed and couldn't find files it was looking for. I then proceeded to device manager to update the driver which it did. I then went back to ati\support\controlpanel setup and run that but ended up with no color tab, or smartgart tab. Any ideas?

Yes, I'm running Windows XP Pro with SP2.

Also, I didn't think you need the 4.11 patch since your existing modding program already does that. It worked for me.

They don't really work...
I am able to install, but after restarting the PC I only get non-widescreen resolutions (1024x768 & 800x600). But there should be also a 1280x800 resolution.
I have a M10 in my notebook (Fujitsu Siemens Amilo D1840).

Thank you....

just a hint, but the path to the setup.exe is still not correct

you have:
C:\ATI\SUPPORT\wxp-8-08-041110a-019199\setup.exe

should be:
C:\ATI\SUPPORT\wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-071-041026a-018719c\setup.exe

Skave, you can still install Cat. 4.11 by going to C:\ATI\support\wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-071-041026a-018719c and running the setup.exe there... All the files have been modded.

Thank you....
Download the program Powerstrip, uninstall the latest drivers, install your original drivers with the 1280x800, install powerstrip, start powerstrip, accept new adapter found thingy, go to display profile, select configure then advanced timing options. Write down the values EXACTLY as there are listed for the 1280x800. Now uninstall your original drivers, install the latest ATI drivers, launch powerstrip, go to display profile, select configure then advanced timing options and edit the values you copied for original drivers and select add new resolution. (After that, before restarting I go to msconfig and deselect pstrip on startup and then restart. When it's restarted you have the new 1280x800 with the new drivers. You don't have to but I always uninstall powerstrip cause it's not needed after the new resolution is in place)

Hi fellas,

I'm not able to use my laptop to do test, it's still at work, so you'll have to wait till monday for me to see what went wrong.

I'm guessing the hint from M_A_D is an important one:

just a hint, but the path to the setup.exe is still not correct

For the 4.11 I can also run setup from there but not 4.12. I get the inf video card not found or similar error. Any ideas on what to try?

I dont get it, does NO ONE know that you can just update your driver through device manager and select "let me choose".

You don't need any modder to install Cat 4.12b on a laptop.

Don't get you it?

You NEED a mobility modder even IF you use device manager...

Otherwise the Device Manager won't find your graphicscard in the inf file....

The stupid never dies...

--sigh--

You choose the .inf yourself, after you select "have disk".

0. Do the steps outlined in latest Drivercleaner

1. Just run the ati catalyst .exe. (cancel when it gives the error).

2. Goto device manager and select update driver on display adapters

3. Select Install from specific location.

4. Select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install".

5. Click have disk

6. Click browse

7. Ati--Support---WXP*---Driver--XPinf----

8. Select CX_19199.inf

9. Choose your card from the list I.e. Radeon 9600 Series.

10. Ignore the WHQL warning and reboot.

11. Install control panel also in ati/wxp*---control.

You don't need any modder to install Cat 4.12b on a laptop.
of course you can do that and install the driver via devicemanager...
but then i have a) no smartgart and b) various problems with my resolution (no 1400x1050) and hardware acceleration (at least had those with cat 4.10)...
all these problems are fixed with patjes modded files...
