Is it normal that I don't have the file driver.cab? I have Windows XP SP1 provided by Acer on my notebook and, when i launch the cab cleaner, it says that the file doesn't exist...
I've tried to search it with the Windows Search function, but it doesn't exist... The problem is that I think that Driver Cleaner doesn't clean anything on my notebook: when i remove the Catalyst and use the Driver Cleaner, at the reboot Windows recognize and install the driver for Mobility Radeon 9200, instead of a Generic VGA Driver... |

Jazzyjazz2004 i have no idea why that happens. Did Driver Cleaner install worked ok or did it stop?
MindlessOath it does not remoce CCC yet, i am going to try and make a cleaning file for that and that will come on live update. qmatteoq i think that the driver installes again is because the notebook is connected to the internet during reboot or the drivers are placed by acer somewhere on your hd. Danhill disable norton firewall for 1 time, because i think it also blocks the referrer.

problem
I seem to have a little problem. I was in safe mode (it turned out to not be that safe) and I was uninstalled my ati drivers. I cleaned "ati" like I usually do, but though I'll go through each "ati" (wdm, igp, etc...) and clean them just to make sure it got everyhing.
So when I get to "ati igp", I run it and it deleted my sata raid files...this is what the log says - ATI Uninstall Utility -------------------------------------------------------- -------- 22-01-2005 -- 12:41:35 -------- Driver Cleaner Professional Edition 1.0 -------------------------------------------------------- - ATI IGP File Deleted (C:\WINDOWS\System32\SilSupp.cpl) File Deleted (C:\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\SI3112r.sys) File Deleted (C:\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\SiWinAcc.sys) After a repair install of windows, and a bootcfg /rebuild, everything seems fine. But I just thought I'd let ya know about the problem. And yes, I know I don't have ati igp, but I thought the drivers might put something there anyways. Also, in safe mode, these files keep coming back after I "clean" them Registry Deleted (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\ Root\LEGACY_ATI_HOTKEY_POLLER) Registry Deleted (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\ Root\LEGACY_ATI_SMART) Registry Deleted (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root \LEGACY_ATI_HOTKEY_POLLER) Registry Deleted (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root \LEGACY_ATI_SMART) Registry Deleted (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root \LEGACY_ATI_HOTKEY_POLLER) Registry Deleted (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root \LEGACY_ATI_SMART)

iLLestOne i will look into the ATI IGP, but you should only run that when you have motherboard with an ati igp chipset. I made the cleaning file from the installation of the igp and i think the same raid controller is on a motherboard with ati igp.
For the registry items i will look, i think windows some how puts them back.

Yea, I know when you run DC w/o being in safe mode, windows will put back many files. But I just thought it was weird that even in safe mode, they won't let me delete some reg. files.
I know I shouldn't have ran it, but I just thought the cat. drivers might have left some files there. I also noticed that when you "clean" ati, it doesn't clean "ati wdm". So at least I learned something from all of this. (well and not to clean ati igp again! lol)

iLLestOne for the reg files i will look, because it is good you told, now i can see if i can find the cause of those registry files not deleting or comming back.
If you install like ATI Display drivers and ATI WDM drivers, because you have an aiw card then you indeed need to run ATI and ATI WDM. If you have a normal ati card without aiw then you only need to run ATI, because the wdm drivers are not installed then. Can you also tell we what windows version you have and if it is xp is it home or pro and what service pack. Also do you have administrator rights?

XP pro, sp1, all updates (except sp2
), net 1.1 (which I'm about to uninstall), and yes, I have admin rights.

Thanx INSTG8R, yep the ATI CCC cleaning file is now on the live update. I will keep improving the cleaning files and the program. The live update is indeed to make it easier for all the users, now they don't have to install new versions and keep doing the settings.

That's good to hear! I haven't installed CCC yet, but mainly becuase incase I didn't like it, I wanted to make sure I could COMEPLETELY uninstall it
![]() Also, why doesn't driver cleaner clean all ATI reg values? Before when I hade to manually change catai_def, I found it in a bunch of locations (i know it should be in 4, primary and secondary, each twice)

Hm, I may be wrong. I did more searching, and found 20 (yes 20) Catalystai_def values. But Each one, said "Catalyst_Version 4.12 Omega". So I guess they all do belong to these new drivers.
So my bad, I guess it does clear away all old reg. files.

iLLestOn can you still export the main keys where you found them in, because maybe i can improve the ATI cleaning file. I am always wanting to make sure it cleans all and now i could check.

soldier2nd i worked hard on it in the spare times i had, also most cleaning files are ok to use under normal windows, but i recommend safe mode. In safe mode windows does not protect all files so hard so then cleaning will always have a better effect.

Well, I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but...
There seems to be a very serious bug in the latest version of Driver Cleaner. And not just any, everyday bug; oh no, we're talking the kind that CRASHES YOUR ENTIRE SYSTEM!
![]() I've used Driver Cleaner for several months now, and I've always been satisfied with the program. Consequentially, I was quite pleased to hear that DriverHeaven finally released a "finished" version. I immediately downloaded and used it to install my next set of video drivers. Needless to say, I followed the ReadMe to the letter. However, when I rebooted my PC out of safe mode, disaster struck. My computer wouldn't boot up. Instead of launching Windows XP, all I got was an error message. Apparently, a critical system file has been deleted and my installation of the OS was totally borked. ![]() At first, I panicked. I had no clue what happened. I tried to boot Windows XP from the CD with no success. Then I tried to reinstall it over the current installation; no success there either. At last, I was forced to use my recovery disk. I lost everything on my PC. Everything! ![]() It was about this time that I realized that there may have been a possible link between Driver Cleaner and my system crash. I proceeded to resintall Driver Cleaner, and run it again, paying close attention to every step of the ReadMe. Sure enough, as soon as I rebooted from Safe Mode, my system gave the same error message and I was forced to reinstall again. ![]() Based on that, I think its fairly safe to say that Driver Cleaner was the problem. I may be wrong, but I am about 95% certain I didn't do anything beyond what was specifically laid out in the ReadMe. After all, I've used the program for several months, so its not like I don't have experience. My point is this: while I've largely managed to recover from this disaster, others may not have such a relatively "easy" time. Please, DriverHeaven, fix this. There is something wrong with this latest version of Driver Cleaner, and I know I can't be the only one experiencing this problem. Of course, if I'm mistaken, please inform me. Whether my problems were user-error or not though is irrelevant; the fact remains that this is an extremely serious issue that must be addressed. The simple fact that the program borked my computer twice in a row should be evidence enough. Until I am convinced that has occurred, I am sticking to Driver Cleaner 3.3, which has given me no problems since the reformat. Thank you. |

There are now allready a lot of people using it and none had problems. Also by testing there were no problems. I am willing to figure what happend, but with your post i can't you don't give any details. Also it think it is impossible to destroy windows, because the program does not delete any windows files. So i hope you can give more details, because without details i can't look into it.
I need to know these things: - What system do you have so specifications and OS - What cleaning file or files did you use - What error message did you got and if you know more things that can help me please tell. I think that it is a user error, but give the info and i will look into it. I also saw that you read this message why didn't you reply with the info?

Great work!
![]() Just a little request. Can you either make it remember your cleaning settings or have an option that does it. What I mean by that is what files to clean. You know so it does not always default to 3Dfx. Thanks, Will |

war59312 run Live Update. The program is updated and now it will remember the last selected/used cleaning file. Also a improved ATI cleaning file and some small code improvements in the Live Update.

Great utility, I've been using it for some time now. However, I had to do a Windows XP reinstall and since that time, the Cab cleaner hangs and I have to do a hard reboot. I run it in safe mode and it runs for a while extracting file (I can tell by the hard disk light) and then it hangs. No cursor movement, can't Ctrl-Alt-Dlt out, nothing. I downloaded the new professional version and same thing. The driver cleaner part works great.
I know its not much info to go on but do you have any ideas? Sys specs: P4 3.4 Northwood OC 3.7 1 gig OCZ 3500 ABit IC-7 (intel 765 P chipset) Maxtor 120 MB SATA Sapphire ATI x800 XT Windows Xp with SP1 Thanks, Ferd |

Ferdinand_L i will look into cab cleaner and look through the code. Maybe i can optimize it somehow and make the code better and i hope when doing those things i will find the problem.

Spike:
To respond to your earlier post, I was too busy before. However, now I have some spare time and I will gladly provide you with the information you need. I've also responded to your PM, and, as I point out in the PM, I am availaible over AIM if you would like to discuss the issue with me more directly. System Specifications: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=523425 Cleaning Procedures: I ran a cleaning procedure on every program listed in Driver Cleaner, in order to clean out all unneccessary file residue. Unfortunately, due to the nature of this "clean sweep," it would be difficult for me to offer any theory regarding which specific "cleaning" caused the problem, if any. As for my method, consult your own ReadMe. As I said, I followed it to the letter, as I have always done. That's a significant reason I am so confused and annoyed over this. Error Message: I blame myself for this. I actually didn't write down the error message I recieved, so I can't tell you specifically. However, I can recall the gist of it. Essentially, when the windows loading screen was supposed to appear, I was instead greeted by an error message that kindly informed me that Windows XP could not boot because it was missing critical system file(s). No effort on my part could rectify this situation, so I was forced to reformat. If you would like to discuss this further, I will be availaible over AIM. If I'm not, just PM me and I will log on. |
